I got one on ebay here, I thought I would take a flyer on it and see. I looked it over real close and feel pretty good that the one I got is from the actual factory that makes them for Porsche and decided to moonlight the parts. The box looks exactly as any other Porsche part would, they just put a big white label over what I believe to be Porsches part number decal on the box. Having seen the ones at the dealer and this, if the dealer was stocking this instead of the one sourced from Porsche, I certainly wouldnt be able to tell the difference. Also came with 2 or 3 bands to secure the cap to the car, my guess is that across their models they have ever so slightly different bands. I have had the cap on mine for at least 3-4 full-to-empty fillups and no CELs or problems, fit is pretty precise and does not seem "loose". Hope this helps.
Oh also, I thought I saw Suncoast is promoting an "open box" sale for ~$95 (not shipped), I bet they are just selling new ones as it didnt seem there was a limited quantity.
I get it from China. I think it is from the same supplier. It even came with a Porsche stamped notice and different sizes attacment loops. The seller quit the product sale after a short while.
This thread is hilarious. I decided that I’m okay with the need to adjust the cap so “Porsche” reads right side up so I just ordered one from Suncoast.
Silly questions: Does the new end of tether simply slip over the that black ****? Does the old tether pull off? The video I saw showed an Allen screw.
I had the "aluminum look" cap on a previous 911 (bought off the lot) but I never ordered it on subsequent cars - it really is just plastic. I have to admit I like the look of this new version - in the photos, anyway. I think I'll get one and report back.
Speaking of well-made vs. cheaply-made accessories from China (you do encounter both), these T-carbon brand key fob covers seem to be high quality:
If it were real aluminum it would cost 3 times as much!
And, potentially, be too hot to handle at times.
What I find humorous about the standard 991 gas cap is that the one cap that a new 911 customer uses on a regular basis looks and feels like something out of a 20yo Pontiac, while two caps that the average customer never interacts with, for oil and coolant, not only look really nice but can be seen by other motorists whenever the rear spoiler is up because they're shiny silver—where they'd just fade away if they were black.
That new version looks much better than the old all-metal drsign. You can actually read the font with the metal/black two-tone.
Now, I’ll wait 3 months for these CAD designs to leak out of the Chinese factory that produces the OEM, and we’ll start seeing these go for $50 a pop on eBay.
