Map Update
Does anyone understand that that new map updates will be version 4.52 on PCM 3.1? Most of us have version 4.76 on our new Porsches. What is the motivation to buy the map updates?

Adding to this question - and implying this will be immoral - it sounds as though the issue keeping the car on trickle charger, so can someone just make a copy of the CD and provide a service to us all - I recommend a few FTP sites. I mean, its ****ty we get charged for updates - but the new 991.2/992 have a free service for updates.
I have done this with lexus when I owned them.
I guess to answer your question - the map update is different from the overall "operating system (4.76)" of the car. The map won't effect it.

That is not what PCNA told me.today. After many, many phone calls to PCNA and Suncoast (from whom I bought them) , they both admitted that my version 4.76 will be replaced by version 4.52 and that is what I have when they are loaded.. The map update would have been replaced but the operating system version 4.76 would have been replaced with version 4.52. Sorry but I spent a s---load on the update but I prefer to not interfere with my operating system that is intact. I view horror stories on this site about PCM 3.1 and Version 4.76. I think I just p----d away a great deal of money for a map that will decrease the utility of what I had. .Does anyone want the discs and the license key?

Very interesting, though that dosen't make any sense. Why would porsche release a brand new map update that would downgrade the operating system. Thats not how exactly how "computer" systems do things..

I had mine just done yesterday and yes - 4.76 to 4.52. Now here is the kicker. There is an exit on I-80 that opened in 2015 with a new road leading to "civilization", It is not on the new map. My home address (house built in 2004) is not on the map (and was not on the previous version either EVEN THOUGH it was on my 2011 997.2 navigation).
This doe not make any sense - what does the new map as update. Has anyone installed the update and found areas/roads that were not on the previous version?

This does not sound right at all. Makes no sense to get backwards from 4.76 to 4.52. I do not understand how this could be right.

Definitely makes no sense. I think I’ll wait for a while until this is sorted out.

If you want backwards from 4.76 to 4.52 they screwed up. The navigation update is different from the software update. Software version is a DVD. Navigation maps are a multiple digit code they enter into your PCM from the Map Update package which looks like a DVD but when you open it up there is no DVD, just a multi-digit code they enter into their computer and then the map data downloads from a network. Software version 4.76 is via Porsche DVD part number WKD-952-800-17. I just had mine updated from 4.52 to 4.76. If you press the INFO and SOURCE buttons together you can scroll through the history and find the USA/North America map version. I've found most dealers are challenged on this stuff. I had to walk mine through it to get it working. I go in this week for my 2019 map update.

Yes, you can order them and update the software version yourself. You CANNOT update the maps yourself. Only the dealer can. 4.76 disc part # is WKD-952-800-17. There is a youtube video but you just put the disc in and it walks you through the update.

I am sorry. Rather than sit back and wait for others to do for you as Dennis C related , how about calling PCNA and kindly relate your problem. I have called 1-800 767-7243, Option 3. I have asked to speak with "Customer Support". I received two responses that did not materialize. I finally received a reply from a person who had long responded to my claim by email. When I finally spoke with him LIVE, he was very kind and told me PCNA would respond to my claim with a check reimbursement. It has not yet arrived but I have his contact and will pursue if it does not occur. ON the other hand, if we receive the check, I will reveal. If you have a complaint, please call PCNA kindly.
Please be positive and call PCNA rather than complain to us.

Did you verify they loaded the right map using INFO and SOURCE button at the same time? You'll be able to see the version.

I actually like the nav interface, and was tempted to have the upgrade done... sounds like it's not worth the effort. Bummer. There's been a TON of changes on my side of Houston. I'll just keep using Waze, it tells me where the 5-0 are as well most of the time.
