Would be curious to hear more about why you think so. This seems like a tasteful way to cover up some cheap, tacky plastic.

Just curious - isn't red stitching on the boot an option that could be sourced? I also have a GTS with red deviation, and would love to make this small change but only if I could match-up stitching in red.....
Thanks for sharing!
I agree, I didn't think the lack of it there would be a big deal but it really would look better. I'll see if my local dealer can special order me one. Certainly is no big deal to change.

It would be funny, if he wasn’t a Porsche car salesman at a dealership in Atlanta. Based on his posts over the years, I don’t think he’s joking.

I'm happy with the look given my car's red stitching and painted key, even more so now that Porsche has basically killed the PDK shifter off!

looks great! Needs red stitching tho..

Good eye and good point. Red stitching would really be outstanding. I have a red interior, and was looking for a boot with red stitching, the only one I could find was for crazy money. After I put mine in, found a boot with red stitching for a Cayman interior for around $300.

So this mod has started to really interest me to replace my PDK trim piece with an Alcantara one. I just ordered one on sale from Suncoast. I have the Carmine Red interior package in my car with lots of deviated stitching. My wife is great at sewing, so when the shift boot arrives, she's going to scope it out to see if she could swap out the black thread by hand with some thread that matches the Carmine Red deviated stitching. I'll let you know what we figure out!

How do you remove the PDK shift ****?

Put shifter in N or D (car is in ACC engine is off), then turn the little collar counterclockwise. Once the collar is loose, pull the shifter up. The collar is located where the shaft meets the ****. Depending, you may need to push the shifter down to loosen the collar.

Cool! That part is simple enough. Is it pretty evident how to remove the rest of the plastic piece surrounding the shift stalk once the trim pieces are removed?

(Thanks in advance for all the help).

That center trim takes some serious prying to get off. Work the pc up at the end near the ashtray first (which is the toughest). Once it releases there the rest of the pc comes out fairly easily.

Thank you, yes I had watched the video about the outer plastic surround, it was very helpful. I suppose it's possible that the center plastic piece that directly surrounds the shift stalk is attached to and comes out with that trim piece. I'll think it will take some digging in and figuring it all out. Suncoast indicated the parts are special order parts and the button trim piece will take until 12/17 to arrive in stock. I'll have a while to think about everything.

Center surround to the stalk is separate from the trim piece, they are not attached to each other. Remove the trim piece then remove the stalk surround.
