Interesting, same driver was faster in the turbo than the new gt3.

And the Cup2 tires on the GT3 are also a big difference. I still don't think, with a tiny bit of work on the TTS, the new GT3 will be able to keep up with a 991.2 TTS.

Yep, just a re-alignment of the Turbo and the addition of Cup2 tires ... that'd make a sizable difference.

Not nearly the same as Cup2. Put it on Trofeo R and it's a fair fight.

Some pictures from a regional Time Attack race called GulfRun in Bahrain, 60+ cars that took place over 2 full days and 4 track configurations ranging from around 1.5 miles to 4 miles..

My car is a ByDesign stage 4 (turbos, intercoolers, IPD intake, Kline headers and exhaust and COBB with custom tunes by Sam@ByDesign who has been constantly on call helping out with the tuning from over 10,000 miles away!
The car also has custom KW suspension, and was running on Pirelli full racing slicks in the unlimited category. Stock weight + roll cage, stock brakes.
The car beat one of the track configurations lap record, times are posted here.

I did win the overall championship but experienced limp mode in 3 out of the 4 races, boost would max out at ~1 bar around half the track, further investigation clarified that it was as a result of the transmission which was getting too hot and causing slippage as well.

The turbo won the overall event against some very experienced racers half my age and great line up of cars in the street unlimited category! 488s, Huracan, ACRs, Z06s, KTMGT4, RR, Mc Laren, heavily modified 997GT2s etc.. some of them in the picture below.

Thanks for representing us, Jean. Nice work! You put the smackdown on some fast/nice cars, so I expect your driving was also a big contributor. Picture #6 shows the tire was just about to separate from the wheel, so watch the tire pressures!

I’m a 991.1 Turbo as well. Your obviously a great driver, however your results against that competition show that us “non S” guys don’t need to suffer “S envy”. I didn’t want center locks or ceramic brakes, so the Turbo was all I wanted. Haven’t tracked her yet though.

Congrats!!! Great looking car and nice setup, I have always read with interest your posts on some other forums

Seems to me that all those guys behind the M6 should have done more laps before the event. Interesting the times have such big diffrences, why? Some running slicks and others not? What is the reason for that?
thanks

Thanks Randy. Yes it looks that way you're right, this is a high compression corner with 1.8G lateral so it does put a lot of stress on the sidewall.. Pressures were good at 29-30PSI hot

For a modified 991 turbo, there is no upside having the "S" I would say. If I had ceramics I would have gone steel for the track.. I do have center locks though. Considering this was done on 100% stock brakes, I would say they're pretty stout! Doing a disc and pad upgrade would have definitely improved lap times though, but no fading with these stock brakes.

Thank you.. Those times on the screen were not the final ones, there were two rounds and 60 cars+ participating, so there is a different consolidated list.. Most unlimited were obviously modified and many on slicks. Here is a link for more historical lap info.. http://www.gulfrun.com/gulfrun/resul...uit-lap-times/
That M6 was super fast definitely, wasn't easy to pass in straight-line. Its a very fast and technical track and pushing the limits is pretty scary. Main straight top speed 170-175mph with ~100 meters to brake down to 30mph with a 2nd gear 1.5 G right hander and praying brakes don't give up on you.

About tires, at moment there are Cup2 with N0, N1 and from this year N2 also available. N0 is for 991.1 GT3, N1 is for 991.2 GT3 and N2 is for 991.2 GT2 RS, 991.2 GT3 RS.
I am looking new tires for tracking and thinking is it OK to put front 265/35/20 N2 and rear 325/30/20 N1? Because as far as I know Micheling doesn't manufacture N2 20" or stick N1 245/30/20 + 305/30/20?
Is there any Pirelli Trofeo R tire with porsche aproval N0, N1? Are those faster than N1, N2 CUP2?

If you’re ok with a short life, Damon at tire rack is taking orders for Hoosier R7s. Not sure the sizing but I’d expect that compound to offer better lap times than any of the others you mention.

If you’re not familiar with them they’re a DOT slick with a short useful life measured in heat cycles.

I'm about to find out how well this works. I have them in my garage now, waiting for mounting and installation.
