In California any modifications to the stock emissions equipment results in an automatic fail of a biennial smog check ... if the modifications are detected by the inspector. Mostly the CEL light must work and tailpipe emissions must pass. New cars however are exempt for six years unless sold.

I'd be more worried about warranty denial consequences.

I hear you on that cartester but how many wait for a 3 year new car warranty to end before putting on an exhaust system? Still say it would be a very hard argument for any manufacture to legally sustain unless the AM system created more restriction than stock or looked to be of an obvious poorer standard than what the manufacturer provided.

The smog issue is separate..

Agree. It has been a while since I have owned a turbocharged car, but it was almost routine for enthusiasts to swap out the exhaust, at least from the cat back. Pretty hard to imagine that a well-made exhaust is going to create warranty issues for any other component of the car. If your dealer and service shop install them, I would think that your SA will look after you for unrelated warranty issues.

Yeah I can't imagine any good reason why any new TT owner would need to start shaking in their boots over putting a decent AM system on. I know I won't be. 3 years is a long time. I might even sell it before that if the .2 is a lot better....and do the same again lol.

Oh for sure.. I mean any of the AE exhausts with cats generally pass the emissions part but they don't have an EO number making them smog legal

Agree with doc here Jeff.
It is actually an easy decision, ..unless of course money is an issue? And if so I respect that decision but I personally would not compare these two as being on the same footing in any way shape or form. That would be being unrealistic so far as I am concerned. Frankly you would only need to look at the two physically to figure that one out and I would be surprised to hear anyone say the TR is in the game there.....forgetting the fact there are no cats as well, adding to other legal complications etc.

Actually now I am curious why would you even contemplate a catless tubi on a car of this type and value? Hmm. If it was purely engine note I would go the SW xpipe all day long over any Tubi system period.... but each his own.

Now if it were perfomance and sound combined then it is extremely unlikely to do better than the EP in my book. So that one is simple.

So with that in mind my selection would be SW xpipe or EP....expectations and money pending fo course.
