I did not express myself clearly. I’m not saying that everyone who drives the car with a big wing and other aero is a douche. I have the GT cars and I drive them on public roads too. But this is how we look to most of the people who are not Porsche or car enthusiasts. R gives you all the GT driving sensation without looking ridiculous on a public road. I actually never got the aero package on Porsches. Ferrari and other manufacturers do away without big wing in the back. Even 458 Speciale - direct comparison with RS doesn’t have it and it’s a phenomenal car.

This is why the new 911 RSR has such a larger under-body diffuser than ever before (mid-engine). This was a bigger incentive than a weight bias change for the race car.

How do you know what other people are thinking when you drive on public roads in a car with a wing? In my middle-middle to upper-middle class area, the cars seem to get almost no attention at all.

Or maybe they don't really care whether the .2GT3 is 'better' than their car from a performance perspective or not. Maybe they're mature enough to love what they have for it's awesomeness and don't feel the need to have the latest and greatest thing. And, I know this will be a shock to a lot of Rennlisters, maybe there are some people out there that love the idea of a car with GT car performance bits, but without the overly firm suspension and Flying Nun wing on the back, because, you know, street car.

So you've set your wishes on an R now after not being able to get a .2 GT3 at MSRP? Since you're non into flying nuns either?
You must like playing the lottery too

Haven't set my wishes on anything, because the R isn't going to be trading around .2 GT3 prices in my lifetime. But, if it did, I'd take an R over a GT3 or a GT3RS all day and twice on Sunday. And I'm sure I'm not alone in that. Different strokes for different folks, but the 911R is at least as special as the GT3RS to me.

I would love that if they also tone down the other aero bits, put a rear decklid similar to the 911R on it and soften the suspension just a bit. If all they do is remove the wing and throw in rear seats, I'd have no interest.

I'm one real data point, I can afford to buy an R if I really wanted one...but I have chosen to pursue the 997 4.0L as it has a much high value/want factor for me.

I fully agree with this. I have both 911R and GT3RS. The 911R is a "Fun road going car." Whereas the GT3RS gives the persona "I'm going to play at the track now."
Either way, I love them both but use them for different purposes and mood.

Didn't read the comments, probably all sound like this anyway...who would pay 400k for a 911 R when you can have a 997 GT3 RS 4.0 for much less or the new 991.2 GT3?? Not a strong buy at all.
