Let me just ask you this question Eduardo. Are you sure with ABSOLUTE CERTAINTY that ALL PTS cars are painted at Porsche in-house? This would include all of the special one-off painted 918 with the racing liveries, or the 911R with the painted stripes?

I have been to the facility that painted my 911R, and it ain't anywhere close to Porscheplatz...

Im not Eduardo, but dude, this is impossible, all 911 bodies are painted in S-Zuffenhausen, I can imagine they might send a car off for striping or repair work of some kind, but its a a multistep paint process I can't imagine the change in logistics required to do it elsewhere. I can't see how this is an ongoing discussion? Ive been to Leipzig and Zuffenhausen, I can't see how the rumor got started?

Reason is very simple. Just In Time.

You want to keep cranking out cars as fast as possible and as efficient as possible. If it was a simple task of changeover the paint, then it's not a big deal (eg. painting a PTS Voodoo Blue GT3RS). That's why most PTS are done on-site. But how about those super customized one-offs like we have seen on the 918 Spyder and 911R?

Do you know how many man-hours it takes to paint the 918 Spyder in that Hippie psychdelic or the Salzburg livery? Do you know how many hours it takes to tape off and mask everything? Imagine the amount of hours to prep the car, and then you have to disrupt the paint assembly of the normal production cars in your paint production line, and then halt everything to do the changeover, paint the car again (eg. 918 Spyder in Hippie livery has two colors), repeat the process for more prep, and halt the paint production of the regular cars again.

You really think Porsche is going to sacrifice the production time of painting 50 regular 911 to paint ONE highly customized PTS 918 Spyder or 911R?

Since Mr. PTS (a.k.a Eduardo) claims that he knows everything and he loves copy and paste everything, here is some new info for him. Most of the 918 Spyder body panels are painted off-site from different suppliers. A few of the highly customized cars are also painted off-site, about 25mins away from the factory.

the 918 stripes were decals, Im sure its possible some customization was done "off site" but PTS 911s are painted in the body shop. They have to treat, prime remove flaws and paint and clear there, it won't work elsewhere at a resonable cost

Looks like FCA, is implementing a very original plan in order to reduce dealer gouging.. they are delivering cars with highest ADM's.. LAST.

the details are as follows:

New Dodge Challenger SRT Demon starts at a U.S. Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of $84,995 (including $1,700 gas guzzler tax, excluding $1,095 destination); Demon crate unleashes full power for $1
Demons sold at or below MSRP will receive priority scheduling resulting in lower serial numbers; Demons sold at a price that exceeds MSRP will be produced after priority production is completed
Dealers can only order as many Demons as they are allocated

the amount of demons each dealership will get is based solely on sales performance. From the release:

To be eligible to order a Challenger SRT Demon, dealers must have sold more than one SRT Hellcat in the last 12 months
Dealer allocation will be based on 60 percent SRT Hellcat and 40 percent Charger and Challenger sales performance
Dealers can only order as many Demons as they are allocated

is this some kind of genius inspired move on the part of FCA????
