just got back, let's discuss value of porsches

^I haven't seen an Emilio Basso frame in a long time. My favorite bike ever had a 1992 Paris-Roubaix frame, painted in Rossi Corsa. Sold it last year, after so many years. They used to have Brazil and Mexico themed frames and all of those were head turners. Great craftsmanship at least in those days.

The Basso is an incredible machine, even by today's standards. I am considering moving it to Campy EPS in the near future and getting some new wheels to bring it up to the latest.
They had some great paint schemes in the 90's and 2000's.
BTW, I purchase this frame for $250 in 2004 when they stopped selling in the US. One of the best buys I ever made....

nizer yes
but cipo is a terrible frame, and i will challenge anyone who disagrees. poor service
easily crackes
and if you are over 40, liley you cannot ride it, i am pretty flexible for my age and i need 40mm stack on RB1000. looks like a hack.
yes i have two. love it
u too?
i was a snob.
seven, merlin, serotta, parlees, colange, you name it i got it. nice bikes but the cheap Sworks, giant, treck are eveyr bit as good. now i ride specialzed s works tarmac
on LWT i am on graphene 25
will have to try a set of NSW zipp 303. too much hills here and my legs too weak to haul up 404 and the flats are too windy i can barely keep the lwt upright.
indeed risk with cars. i only ride on certain roads at certain times around my place. can pretty much tell you how many cars and which cars iwill see at what time.
aerobic exdertiono differs for each. i have riders next to me where the can hold insane heart rate for a loooooong time. and talking to me like nothgin is happening. so for them, they are not realy into heavy aerobic zone. most of the better riders do do some interval training with real aerobic stuff.
i dont do carb, veg or such. i really jsut eat sugar. those who track with me know i am not kidding. in bc sugar, teh amount of meat. veggie, and other hi quality food i can put away is a sight to behold.

i used to like the custom stuff, particular Serotta. they were special frames. but over the last 8 years or so, frankly, nothing comes close to the performance and dollars of the off-the-shelf top line frames from like specialized, trek, giant, etc.
i race /train on specialized tarmac SL. stiff, light, durable and they are relatively pretty cheap. the new Di2 stuff all came down in price, and that di2 stuff is flawless.
for rims, if you want better braking, try the zipp 304 NSWs. reasonably deep. but not heavy. wider profile at the brake surace so you can go a 25 or 26mm tire. and they have this ribs/Michelins in the braking carbon surface which rid water. best carbon braking ive experienced, as good as alloy.
those lightweights are nice, light, but narrow so the feel is like older tubulars. the newer stuff have wide profiles. lately ive been training and racing with the specialized rovals. the new cx32s are insane. cheap, WIde so i run a 26mm tire, incredible feel, quiet, dt swiss hub internals. nice nice wheels.

Two reasons why I'm not biking...
1. Hate being swiped and thrown into the bushes/rocks by morons texting or having no idea how wide their SUV is.
2. Long (30min+) aerobic exertion is useless and deadly, especially for old (40+) farts. Better to do 30sec all-out sprints (run, swim, bike, etc.) with couple of mins rest in between + bring every muscle 'to failure' 1x or 2x a week with weights or body-weight stuff. About 1hr a week, all in.
More importantly, drop the carbs and plants. Meat and eggs is all you need, as much as you need.

Once off carbs, and once the body re-programs from carbs-burning to fat-burning for energy, the positive changes are eye-opening. That 'hunger' you remember having all your life, asking you to eat smth every 1-2hrs disappears. You could do a 100mile ride after 2 days of fasting, no problem. You will eat when hungry (usually once a day, sometimes twice) and to satiation. You will also realize that what you used to call 'hunger' was actually an adiction to carbs not unlike an addiction to any other powerful drug.
Also, problems (pains, injuries, etc.) with joints or any other part of your body will disappear. Carbs cause inflammation everywhere, especially in the joints. Most chronic joint-related problems that people associate with aging are caused by the accumulated effects of carb-induced inflammation.
Oh, and sugar is the mother of all carbs, in case that was not already clear.

My P1 Domane SLR7. Enve 3.4's removed for the ride to allow for less shock to the torn rotator cuff. The adjustability from stiff to plush is amazing. This is from the AMBBR in Lake Tahoe a couple of weeks ago. The ride around Tahoe is a must if you love to cycle

Are you kidding? To me, nothing compares to the peacefulness. I truly enjoy even driving solo, much more demanding, but worth it.
Hugely fun. Tons of adreneline and endorphins. Plus for us type A's the satisfaction of competing whether against the clock, yourself or others.
For me, when cycling, i get a similar feeling to when I'm tracking. My mind quiets and all the crap going on in my life melts away. I'm purely focused on what i'm doing and enjoying that moment. Wish I had started riding years ago.

[QUOTE=mooty;14258072]20 years ago, woke at 500 , on MTB at 530, rode till 8, 2.5 hours in a tilden park abover CAL, showered at work in Emeryville by 9.
the morning smell of dew
the freezing air into the lungs
can't get legs going for the first 15 min.....
hoping the noises i heard was not mt lion....
Right on!
the first 15 miles is hard. 16-60 is pretty fun
60--75 is painful
after that you cant' feel anything....
Sounds familiar.

That's almost 100% carbs and you can't 'balance' them out with anything. Carbs + fat is the worst combination -- guaranteed to make you insulin resistant (pre-diabetic, then diabetic) even if you ride 100miles/day. And plant fats are deadly, stick to animal fat.
Our bodies are the result of millions of years of carnivorous evolution. The last 10,000 years of agriculture (plants) 'revolution' is just a blink. Try only meat + eggs for a month just for kicks and see how you feel. The first 1-2wk are the hardest as you kick your carb (heroin) addiction and as your body switches to fat-burning for energy. I've had friends (including doctors) thanking me for pestering them about the suggestion after they had given it a try.

Is there a book or website that you recommend
that explains the 'meat & eggs' diet to the public?
There was a Dr. Atkins Diet years ago. But that
was/is similar to The Paleo Diet since it includes
fish, nuts, leafy greens, regional veggies & seeds.

A thread topic on Porsche values... discussing and showing pictures of bikes complimented with debates on carb intakes. So my two cents :
- The comes an age and a certain body shape where lycra should not be seen in public. Loose MTB clothing should at least one reason for us older blokes to convert!
- Carb loading is the best part of endurance bike/training preparation... Think Beer, pasta and sweet desserts.. don't burst that bubble on me hf1 !!
- Retro bikes are the new black... Im doing a 2018 specialised Epic hard tail XC MTB bike in a PTS Irish Green... with Alu look carbon rims and polished hubs, brown retro look carbon shell seat.....under 9kg bike is the aim. Yes Im serious .

This is complete nonsense. Go out in the woods hungry and try to feed yourself. You'll eat meat if you can catch it, but you'll also eat plants including the fatty parts (nuts and seeds) if you can find them and carbs (fruit) as well. Compare your own fingernails and teeth to an animal like a wolf that has specialized in eating ONLY meat. We don't look like cows or deer either, we're clearly omnivores adapted for eating all kinds of food that might become available.
Of course, trying to decifer the healthiest diet by the habits of our ancestors is useless anyway, because they died by their 30s. It's true that the grain and sugar heavy diet we seem to have adapted in the agricultural era is terrible for us of course, but the idea that eating fresh vegetables is bad for you is as rediculous as your suggestion that sustained aerobic exercise is.
