Funny posting. Unless you have access to warranty repair bills by car/manufacture, lemoned cars, etc. then one shouldn't make conclusions about overall reliability of a car brand.

If I checked all the recall information on the NHTSA website then I'd never buy a porsche.

What is their Current warranty - 3 or 4 year???

Can one buy and extended warranty??

No doubt that most have scared me going down the McLaren road; which is a shame. The (5) Porsches I have owned have been great in regards to quality and few, if any, issues. No one likes to spend this type of money for a weekend car only to learn it has issues

3 year standard warranty. can extend up to 12 years.

I'm on my 5th mclaren and 3rd porsche. Small issues here and there. No big deal when buying these cars.

Have to ask. What does a 12 year warranty cost? 40k ?

I think you can extend it only in one to two year increments all the way up to 12 years. don't know off hand but I believe it to be around $5K/year. Others can chime in who have done it or CJ can tell us.

A big takeaway is that although you may be able to get a 2012 12c for $130K or $140K but it's still a $300K car to repair. I'd say that most mac owners would say to keep the warranty going as long as you can (not necessarily because of breaking down but they are pretty expensive to repair once out of warranty).

I believe the track warranty only applies to the first 3 yrs.

The McLaren warranty is about $4600 per year. It is purchased at the dealership in one or two year increments.

Can any McLaren owners actually spend some time telling us exactly what ‘niggles’ the newer cars such as the 570S have suffered from?
Minor electrical glitches that go away the next time the car is cycled off/on, or important crap like windows; radio; Satnav, etc not working?

Also track driving at HPDEs: what are the concerns regarding overheating?

that's correct. I think it would be surprising to many people (not many on this forum though) that a lot of the track focus cars or even cars that are shown tracking in marketing materials don't have any warranty coverage if you track them.

I can't give specifics about 570s other than to tell you that the early cars had some issues which were taken care of under warranty and the later cars seemed to have those things taken care of.

With regards to overheating; i've tracked 650, 675, p1, 720s. I had the issue twice with 675 but it wasn't because of running the car all day on track. I was probably the first one that encountered an issue with the thermostat and it was replaced. I had a below 100 chassis number and they were still building the cars so it took some time for them to figure out what it was and they took care of it once they did.

It happened to me again about 1.5 years later. It wasn't because I was flogging the car around all day. I noticed that the temperature gauge would start to turn red but not go all the way when I was full throttle down the front straight at laguna seca. As soon as I'd get to the braking zone it would then return back to normal. It would appear again on the front straight. The track inspection required the thermostat to be replaced again. (I have about 4K track miles on my 675).

With regards to 570s; this is probably the most common mclaren car that you will see on track. I've tracked numerous times with a few different 570s and they haven't had any heating issues.

Simraceway at sonoma used to use audit r8's for their track experience and now they use 570's. They run those 570
s quite a bit every month.

My 12C spider overheated on track. My 570S has not had this problem even on hot days.

Coming up 850 miles in my 570S, no track time yet but the car likes to be driven and responds wonderfully on spirited drives. No issues, does everything it's supposed to and is always an event to drive.

Like others, I got tired of discussions about how much markup-up I was willing to pay and at least a year long wait on a new GT3. Life's too short.

The only recurring issue on the cars currently is replacing the soft close door latches.

Tracking the 570S- you can get the tires very greasy if you do not properly bleed them down.

Mechanically the latest cars continually get updated from any issues the past cars had- the 675LT had less issues than the 12C. The 720S so far has proven to be very solid other than some of the wacky trim bits on the rear

Thanks for all the pointers on current Maccas, especially the 570S.

I’d really consider a low mileage 2017 570S, but I’m about 500 miles from the closest McLaren dealer, which just makes me a little nervous.

agreed, thats why I liked it so much it is an event to drive. I'm on the hunt for a blade silver 570gt now. I kept hesitating a few months ago because I wasn't sure if I wanted a S or GT and whether to go bright or dark in color.

but now I've figure out what i want so the hunt begins..
