Motortech in France measured their 720S prior to tuning on the latest (and expensive) Maha MSR500 chassis dyno and got 705PS/770NM, no doubt some cooling issues there but still no where near 800hp.

I am convinced it is area under the power curve which makes the 720S accelerate so hard, if I can get the CdA for the 720 I can crunch the numbers.

This one is the 720S on a different dyno, it is a before and after tuning measurement.

add my SO to the list of people who went the Macca way. she actually liked the looks of the new Boxster Spyder, but of course we were told "sorry, can't get you one. one may come available after VIP takes delivery, but will be marked up." popped over to McLaren yesterday to see if she still liked the look of the 570GT and what it might take to get one. ended up it just took a check to get a 2019 570 Spider they had in stock!

^ I said this long ago
once Mac controls depn and develop bigger nationwide dealer net work and don't do stupid games. ferrari and porsche are just another car ...
and this is coming from 3rd generation porsche driver.
but germans with hotdog and beers.... really need to get their sh*t together....
think about 1990's.....

McLaren still has many issues that they need to fix. The depreciation is getting better but still nowhere close to Ferrari. The bigger issue IMO is the lack of quality of perceived lack of quality. My friends used to refer to my McLaren 12C/12S as the "Lucas Electrics car". It was funny at first but painful over the years. Finally - The dealership network and what to do with these cars once the warranty expires. What happens to resale and durability if you keep it 5-8 years and put 5K miles on it per year?

Funny because I was dead set on 720 (and have been for months), but chatting with another member here yesterday who has one and he said don't waste your money. Like many owners, they feel a lack of engagement after a few weeks with it.
The serious issue (for me) is the damn depreciation. I saw a $380k 720 recently sell for $306 (with a few hundred miles). Everyone said 720 will be different...um no it won't. The dealer I was talking to had a 2019 570 Spider (stripper unit) that was $219 MSRP and he said next year he sees that buy back around $160...oooofff. At least he's honest. You better get the best deal you can upfront, because it's going to really hurt on the backend. Buying used is only way on Mac.
Not to mention lack of dealers, warranty issues, gremlins (but getting better) and the fact they just produce to damn many (hence depreciation).
If you have money to burn I think it would be a blast.
Until then, I'm back to waiting for my RS in Nov and hunting for a Performante.

Since the warranty is only 3 years, this gives only a 2-year ownership window after first year depreciation and before warranty expiration. While there are options to extend the warranty, my understanding is that track coverage is only offered under the original new car warranty.

If you are upset about cars going down in value and end up in a lambo it's the same thing.
Also let's be real here that a 380 720 has almost 100k in options.

went with the undercoating, so it's all good!
i'm mostly hoping that the car proves to be reliable. she owns cars for a long time, so the extended warranty options McLaren has may even help alleviate some fear on that side. the driving/feel aspects of a car that lead most of the people on this forum to the Porsche GT cars (and me to my 997.2 GT3), really aren't going to be big factors for her.
CJ -- not to put you in a tough spot, but what have you seen on the reliability front with the Sport Series cars?

Honestly, you guys in the US live in a bubble. In Europe you can now buy slightly used Performantes, all Mclarens and GT3s for well under MSRP. Indeed, I still can't sell my GT3.2 after 4+months on the market at 26,000 euro under my MSRP. There are still unsold GT3s sitting in showrooms.

Neither Porsche nor McLaren are perfect, Porsche makes a great product but will gladly rake you over coals to get it (cost you time hunting for the allocation/negotiating/playing dealer games for most people), McLaren makes a great product that seems to be a bit easier to purchase but will cost you a bit more $ in terms of depreciation, and dealer network nowhere near as large so hopefully your local Mac dealer is awesome. I don't know about Mac warranty vs Porsche in terms of longer term ownership either
I noticed we have some .2 3RS price within striking distance on some low mileage 720S after ADM, I would expect both to depreciate equally if you factor the ADM as a loss... actually I wished the GT cars depreciated more in the US would maybe alleviate some things
I was having fun configuring a 570S on the configurator yesterday, it's cool thought that it could be a possibility to actually walk in spec and purchase that exact car you like. Carbon tub would be nice

Buying used is is fine for many cars, it all depends if you want to be first or second.

Wow, thats incredible! But I guess not surprising to hear we have a bit of a bubble going on lol.
