Hell, a Honda Civic is now 6 sec faster than the original GT3 (was announced to come to US market since this article)...

M2 Ring time is same as 997.1 GT3. Crazy!

While we could debate the truth in that mantra, 405 ft. lbs. of torque from the 991.2 GTS motor is significant over the 325 ft. lbs. from the 991.1 GT3 motor.

Agreed. That's why the future of GT cars is tt IMHO and don't be surprised if mid engined.

I'm confused: was the 991.1 turbo ring time faster than Gt3 or RS? How could the 991.2 gts ring time be faster than 991.1 turbo if it's a torque argument? I don't know exact figures but I would have guessed the .1 turbo meaningfully out-performs a .2 gts? Then again, my assumption could be dead wrong???

Ok, there is so much contradictory information on this thread now as to suggest to conspiracy theorists that some of it is deliberate misinformation.
Any thoughts on Porsche spreading different stories in different people's ears to cover for real information leaking?

Some thoughts:
- A significant factor in drop in lap times is improvement in tires over the years.
- With the ring lap being in the 7-8 minute range, need to divide differences in ring lap times by a factor of about 3 to 7 (average of about 5) to get lap time differences on more typical shorter tracks with lap times in the 1-2 minute range.
- Assuming factory pro drivers, I think we can assume they're very close to the limits of the cars, so driver isn't much of a factor. But track conditions could affect ring lap times by a few or several seconds.
- Would be interesting to know what the lap times were for these cars if they did two or three ring laps back to back. How long can the tires stay in the sweet spot? Does the car overheat? One glory lap doesn't always tell the full story.

^^^ this is awesome if true! We will all know for sure about the 991.2 GT3 soon. Porsche futures are looking brighter with the GT2 and GT4 news as well. The current GT4 is just missing a potent motorsports heart, and if they rectify that...wow
