Lol this seems to have escalated! You're right I did know the T has RWS but have heard that the program is slightly different.
The arguments for and against the fun of the R (steering, chassis, red line) are indeed the key ones for me too. Sadly haven't driven the R but have so the other. R defo not worth much extra for me. If they were both the same price then it would be nice to try the R but I think the engine would swing it in favour of the T.

for the record as this is a 911R thread ... the 911R is the reason I bought and spec’d a GT3T ... love my NA manual, 9000 rpm, PCCB’s, LWB’s w CXX houndstooth, R carbon shifter (after), retro Motorsports homage decals (after), aftermarket Antigravity lithium -31 lbs, xenon PDLS, Dundon Street headers w side deletes -35 lbs ... would die for OEM GT3 style magnesium wheels !!
if CAR magazine ranks the 911R as the greatest Porsche of all time then I am ok if my GT3T is 95% with similiar ethos ... I do take issue with lengthy (indirect) passive aggressive comparisons to suggest one car is miles ahead of the other while providing no balance or kudos to the GT3T what so ever
the 911R is epic and only owners truly know and appreciate how special !! Imitation is the highest flattery ... kudos Porsche for giving us the GT3T!!

I wasn't being sarcastic about testing roads and on-limit handling. That's how road testers judge road cars and how I try to judge them.
I like reading paragraphs of driving comparisons, which of course are inherently subjective. Assuming some others do too, I write the same.
Compared to the average punter I'm a talented driver; compared to a pro I'm a washed up joke.
What started this whole distraction was your comment 'what fool would pay speculator price when they can have a superior road car for 40% of the cost'. I do not have an R so did not take it personally. I felt affronted on behalf of those whose only option to get an R was to buy used. As you keep saying, car preferences are subjective. The significance of the price difference depends on how much money you have and in the long run the R might be the better investment. To call people fools for their car choices is arrogant and rude. Your continued derision on both threads finally goaded me into retaliating, which I admit was weak.
This is my final comment on the matter. Feel free to have the last word.

you are correct ... my opinion and the use of word fool ( even though light in my vocabulary) could be insulting to others (we all come from different places) ... therefore to all 911 R owners who paid more than $200K over list I apologize for my insensitivity ... as far a superior road car ... at least compare to all cars both 911’s are superior road cars ... not sure much to argue here as that is what Porsche has claimed as their ethos.
i too felt goaded into responses as my initial impression was who is this Mall Cop policing and posting citations
you are obviously as passionate I am
I’ll offer peace in my apology to you as well
all the best

It has been 7 years now, but I am still enjoying the car...and thought I'd share some observations from an airport runway and the autobahn.
Verified that the 911R is the fastest atmospheric 911 ever...ran out of space at Porsche's quoted max of 201 mph, but car was still accelerating and had a few mph left
Also gathered another important statistic
0 to 300 km/h in 35 sec in the 911R
versus 38 sec in my manual 992 GT3 Touring
The 992's max of 9000 rpm really helps (versus 8500 for the 911R), but not enough to overcome the 911R.

Well, I guess this is not really a Vmax test - more an acceleration test where the light weight helps. Would be interesting to see what happens with a longer run…

Thank you for the info. Even after all these years, for me, the R remains as the standard for Porsche liquid cooled road cars and is the only "big" 911 I have kept.

I took the R out this weekend, and after all these years from new, can only echo the sentiments as above.
Equally happy for those who feel the same way about their Porsches, whatever model they may be driving.

Still salt on our roads but should be good in a week or two. After 7 years, the R is still my favourite car to drive. I do have one of the Radford 62-2 John Player Specials (manual) coming in a couple of months and Jenson tells me it will be my new favourite. We will see.

This R just hammered yesterday on BaT for $475K, all in.

Best comment, IMO:
"The 911R is definitely a historic car with Porsche arguably saving the manual shift market when the likes of Ferrari, Lamborghini and Aston Martin all turned their backs on the true passionate enthusiasts and stopped offering manual gearboxes."
Great pics in the listing, amongst the very best I have seen online.
