The Cup 2 N0 pic posted earlier on the GT2RS is the 918 spec tires, not the N1 on the old GT3RS or the N2 on the new GT3RS. Michelin is quite specific on the naming convention. But at any given time, there are shortages on tires so Porsche do interchange them. Not optimal and against their recommendations on 918 tires vs 911 tires.
I happens to know Lars Kern was fed wrong information. Porsche like to compartmentalized information and not everyone gets every bits. The mechanic that did the tire change during the record lap happens to be someone I know, and he had mounted Cup 2 N2, not Cup 2 R N0s on the record car at the Ring. Michelin separately confirmed the record lap was on Cup2 N2s, not Cup 2 Rs as those were not available back then. There were of course prototypes Cup2 Rs but the record car wasn't mounted on those as Michelin wasn't comfortable with them running.
Didn't they improve certain sections of the Ring after the 2RS set the record lap last year? If so, I wonder if it would close the gap if it ran again. Not that I think Porsche would do it. It's only fair to give Lambo some time in the spotlight.
Put Kevin Estre behind the wheel on the GT2 RS and he will take the record back!!

the record of the 991 gt2 rs was made on michelin sport cup 2 R

Not according to the mechanic that actually mounted the tires to the car itself before it head out of the pits. It's Cup 2 N2s. I just spent a whole weekend with him at Nurburgring.
The .2 GT3RS however was indeed run on the Cup 2 Rs.

It makes sense that the 2RS was on slower tires given how close the laptimes were between the two cars (9 seconds over 13 miles) and the huge difference in power/torque between them (~200hp and 200 ft-lbs).

beat me to it - I would be very surprised in my extremely limited knowledge of tires/tracking if the 3RS was that close to the 2RS on the same tires
I’m sure if the 918 had the same tires that the 1.2 GT3 used the difference would be more than a second.
I'm not so sure about that: according to Manthey the N0 is a faster tire then the N1 but for fewer laps. That is the reason they used the N0 when they did their Hockenheim lap time with the 991.1RS
