Okay, so according to Lars kern, the 2RS set its famous time on the "R" compound tires. with the really bad youtube auto translations, he mentions something about the cup tires then mention six to eight second delta between, then says something about the numbers 49, 48, 48, 47, and 47. Around 19:50
These would appear to be the times with what Lars is saying. ...................Porsche 991.2 GT2 RS: 6:47.30 (Cup2 N2 R) Lamborghini Huracán Performante: 6:52.01 (special design Trofeo R) ...................Porsche 991.2 GT3 RS: 6:56.40 (Cup2 N2 R) ...................Porsche 991.2 GT2 RS: ~6:55.30 (8+ secs with Cup2 N2)
......................Porsche 918 Spyder: 6:57.00 (Cup2 N0 Eco) ...................Aventador LP750-4 SV: 6:59.73 (Pirelli P Zero Corsa, similar to Cup2 I believe) .....................Porsche 991.2 GT3 RS: ~7:04.40 (8+ secs with Cup2 N2)
.........................Porsche 991.2 GT3: 7:12.70 (Cup2 N2)
Motortrend on demand just realeased a new ignition episode reviewing the GT2RS. It’s entertaining viewing.
Yeah I was there that day at Willow Springs with Jethro and Jonny - pretty amazing results. They also reviewed the Panamera Turbo Sport Turismo and Turbo S e-Hybrid Sport Turismo. Turbo S time was also impressive, as was acceleration data. Nuts. 0-60 in 2.8 for Panamera Turbo S e-hybrid! I believe 2.6 for GT2RS.
How different is that tire they used at Willow Springs to the tire posted by Nizer (post#6701) where the tire brand Michelin, cleary shows tire model "CUP 2 R" branding on the sidewall?
Is it same tread pattern Cup 2 N, but different compound rubber on CUP 2 R?
Drive safe,

What’s crazy is to my knowledge the mclaren 720 isn’t on Trofeo R but on a lesser tire. Maybe a corsa? Should pick up so good time on that. Insane times all around.
There's got to be a "standard compound tire" used moving forward for uniformity. Some car manufacturers to attain records would use the most extreme "R" compound tires. Whereas Porsches remains "Out of the Box" tires on their production cars they use to set records, which is what Porsche prides itself in attaining these record runs at Nurburgring. Big difference between standards used by competitors as opposed to Porsche.
"The standard tires are Pirelli P Zero Corsas developed for this car, while more-aggressive P Zero Trofeo Rs are optional. Unsurprisingly, the Trofeo Rs were used for the record lap."
This is still a huge accomplishment on the part of Lamborghini. We will have to wait until Porsche launches the "Limited Edition" GT2RS (who may finally use the "R" compound tires ) and see who will be the next "King of Nurburgring"
At what point are they going to give up the pretense that these are "threaded" tires and just make them proper slick?
I know they have to cut just enough grooves in them to make them "street-legal" but, seriously, how much water removal could possibly one expect to get from these "threads"?
