Thanks, I'd appreciate that. Based on your pic, I'll have to revise my previous comments as that looks first rate. Anything special about how you did the installation? Do you recall what size tape you used; for example was it sized properly for width off the roll or did you have to trim it to fit?

I had the Leather steering wheel and actually used a razor blade to cut the width I wanted. I made mine bigger than the indent because I wanted it bigger. I cut enough tape to wrap it like 3 or 4 times around. It just took a couple of times because I did not want the tape to end where it was directly in front of me.

^^The key would be to make a really straight and precise cut, I would think...

I can only imagine the mess I can make with this.....off to the hardware store!

It looks a little more finicky than wrapping a hockey stick.

Here's a couple pics of my quick DIY.

As to what tape, you can get a whole role from Amazon here, in your choice of colors. Fits perfectly, not cutting needed.

For $10, I got enough to wrap my entire steering wheel. Thrice.

Thanks ipse, that looks good in your car. It's a plus that it's pre-cut to the 1/2" size. The description of the tape you linked to says that it's vinyl coated fabric. Does it feel/look like cloth or does it have more of a smooth tape-like finish?

It's definitely a vinyl, cloth feel to it. Not smooth like masking tape. Picks up dirt, but easy enough to change and I got enough that I can probably use it on my next Porsche if need be .

Sorry mate I missed this. The tape I bought was on eBay, has a fabric texture and came in a roll at precisely the right width which is what you want as its free mushed properly and will not Frey on the edges. There is a thread from 18 months ago here that pictures the tape and talks about the process but I will try and dig up the specifics for you. It is gaffer tape...

Ipse - I like how it is already the perfect size.

Does it leave a residue when you take off?

That is a cool idea, should work out great. One question though, how do you knot the end of the thread so it doesn't unravel?
