BMW M4GTS faster around the Ring as the 991GT3? (or even faster than RS?)

Very interesting. Thank you for that. I recently went to a local dealer as male ballast with a newly divorced female friend who was interested in an X3 and the general manager - no less - was telling her that the 4-year plan was discontinued except as a chargeable option. I didn't question it. I foresee a call to BMWNA.

Indeed. Thanks. I went and read the literature online after posting and realised I may not have been paying sufficient attention generally that day. He could have been talking to her about a CPO at the time. The X3 had been really disappointing to drive - aside from when we were very lightly rear-ended by a slightly dotty old dear at a traffic light - and I was at the time being amused by the fact that my '02 M3 DD was getting the most attention of any car on the lot while we were outside chatting. (This is a car with 144K mi, now in need of some exterior TLC.) That rather sadly sums up my own POV on BMW at the moment.
That change to the t&c on the maintenance program is IMO not a brilliant move on their part and suggests a clash of overconfidence and weakness amongst brand managers. I would hope Porsche doesn't suffer similarly since (1) I just got my first one and (2) I see a good deal of concern about it on Rennlist.

Here's a link that explains...BMW is shooting themselves in the foot w/this decision.

i've been enjoying my M3 at the track this past season.
it's a great DD, kiddie errands, part-time track, do-it-all car. i'm committed until my lease is up in 28months. then it's on to an used 991 GT3RS, 570S, 458, or huracan. Also considering the ACR and Gen6 Z28

The thought of a sedanish car that handles well and can just about hang with the GT3 sounds pretty cool to me. Would love to see some of these showing up at the track and embarrassing all sorts of Porsches.

chassis/steering/feeling on E46M and E92M are great! so predictable. such a good playable thing. i missed it a lot in other sportscars (C6Z06 for example).
owned E46M's and E92M's in all versions. minimum 150.000km quick country roads in the last 8 years. i didn't bought a M4 up till now. (current M3 is the best daily saloon. sure.)
but may you can prefer on some days a M4 GTS more than a 991 GT3. way more torque. engine in the front, drive in the back and a lucky piece of meat in the middle.
i could imagine it. to hoon full opposite lock around.
and it is cheaper. 144k€ for a M4GTS; 137k€ (154k€ same spec) for the 991GT3.
huge fanbase. fastest BMW ever. limited to 700 ww. should further lead to more than price stability.

The SportAuto time for the 991 GT3 is poor. There are already two amateurs on youtube beat this time with 250kmph geo fence in place (emanuelle - plowerslidelover). They should have managed 7.28. I recall they had some issue with the car?
The 991GT3 they need to do the times again at Spa & ring as both are wrong.
BMW made a good product in the past. I have had e39 M5 many years and driven e36 M3. The 1M is fun too. I tried new M4 hit didn't like it. I think e92 would be sweet spot. I tried CSL but did not like SMG. Horrible. But everything else about that car wax good!

At first I assumed that powerslidelover would have set bridge to gantry times, which are about 15 seconds less than the Sportauto lap (which at 20.6km is 200m less than the full lap which BMW did), but I can see at least one full lap at 7:35s from powerslidelover. And I believe he has done 7:28 as well, which is incredible for someone who does not race there.
That does show that a top driver should manage the 20.8km lap under 7:20 (Porsche sources suggest 7:17 is feasible in the RS). But until they issue a video it's all hearsay.

Powerslide lover did 7.35 in a rented RSR 991 GT3 (fully stock) first day he ever drive the car on the Ring and that was 14 months ago. I think it may have been with a passenger.
He did a 7.14 BTG with limited 250kmph geo fence in his own car with Trofeo R a few months back on adjusted geo and has data to support this translates to a 7.28 time. I have no doubt on the right day with zero traffic he could achieve very close to 7.25 factory time in his own car.
It shows the factory times are aggressive and must occur with perfect conditions and support on the day. Even wind can be an issue and definitely humidity and road surface temperature when setting a hero lap.
It would be great to see an official RS factory full lap now the 250kmph limit is lifted. I think 7.18/19 is possible with Timo on the right day.....but it wont be easily replicated by an amateur not even someone as skilled as Emanuelle.

I agree. I had an e90. Incredible engine, sweet chassis, but it just felt generic somehow. Not sure how else to describe it. The low torque/high rev V8 just didn't fit the heavy car I guess.

Yes, but agree with others who reminded of the SMG shortcomings. Selective memory at work again....
