I appreciate any recommendations.
I had a Lowe's Kobalt one 1 HP IIRC. Marketed as quiet but noisy!

I had seen California Air Tools on Home Depot's site and their advertising of extra quiet. But availability was not good last year and I was itching to make an improvement on this.

So I bought this Makita one - fantastic, what a difference in noise. Super quiet. Dual output is convenient. This season I'll run a second hose for tire filler station. https://www.makitatools.com/products/details/MAC320Q

You are correct, I bought a 1 HP 6 gallon version years ago and it is still working great with my HD-9. I don't have any air tools so the only other thing I use it for is filling car tires and setting tubeless MTB tires. For a lift you need high pressure (120) but not high volume so a smaller pump will work if it has sufficient pressure.

Regarding air:

I installed all PEX airlines to avoid condensation and contamination to five different points in the Car Cave. There is no point on the 8,000 main floor where air is not available with the pulling of a 50' hose. I used a standard DeWALT compressor with a 40 gallon tank that I bought at Tractor Supply (right as Covid hit to avoid the risk of price increases and unavailability). I did not hard bolt it to the floor but instead placed it on a 1" thick closed cell rubber mat. It is quieter than my small acorn tank units at the two home garages. There are also five 50' hose retractible reels mounted to various locations in the garage: On the lift and near every garage door. There are lots of various nozzles and fittings to blow dust out of nooks and crannies and for cleaning anything without damage or excess abrasion.

Here is the noisy one at home. In consideration of what I did with the rubber mat under the big compressor I am bringing another mat home to put under the small compressor.

In this configuration the compressor is on top connected to a switched power source and under the shelf for the compressor are:

1. 50' Retractible hose reel.
2. 30' Retractible Trouble light.
3. 4 hp Vacuum with 30 ft of hose and a bag of attachments.

Some construction workers refer to these small compressors as "Acorn Compressors". I have no idea why they are so noisy!

Nice set up BTW - When I built my garage, I also put in a few stations powered by compressor so I could use tools, fill tires, etc. throughout the garage. I bought the same 50' retractable air hoses - works great!

PS. I have never heard Acorn Compressor - most around the Midwest call them a Pancake Compressor.. And those things are loud, surprising louder than your bigger HP and capacity Dewalt.

I had a lesser quality small compressor for my lift, a Kobalt unit. Lowes private label brand. Noisy!

Swapped out last Spring for a Makita. I couldn't believe how much quieter it was, should've sprung for a better one in the first place. Makes world of difference even if only used for the lift. I plan to run a tire fill line this Spring. https://www.makitatools.com/products/details/MAC320Q

If you use a lot of air regularly, a screw compressor is the quietest type. I have 40 HP one (Atlas Copco) at work. Switched over from a 25 HP & 10 HP Piston style.

Thinking I will go for Milwaukie's 18v cordless 2 gallon compressor. 68dB, 31#. My Bendpak 4 post needs air for releasing the safety locks, but I don't have a lot of other compressed air needs beyond inflating tires from time to time.

that’ll do it.

another application aside from running tools is using air for detailing. Blow out dirt and such exterior/interior etc.
