My new sign for the garage. Still have a lot of work to go though.

Any thoughts on the Racedeck vs Swisstrax?
I looked at both of these and decided on Racedeck FreeFlow. Honestly, the products are identical, save for two differences that are total personal preference. The connecting tab design is slightly different and the sheen on the Swisstrax is slightly higher. I preferred the Racedeck FreeFlow on both accounts, but it's really a toss up. I love the RaceDeck and I'm sure I would have loved the Swisstrax as well. I think you can also get the Swisstrax in a larger size (16" IIRC) if you want, versus the RaceDeck only comes in 12" I think.

I personally went with WeatherTech and will not look back (or likely elsewhere) - awesome product (got the tiles with the infused rubber 'traction squares'). A lot of colors to chose from and really nice end pieces / trim that ensure you have a proper finished look regardless of the size of the place.

Big difference between that and SwissTrax or RaceDeck FreeFlow is that it doesn't have holes that allow dirt and water to drain down. I've owned both types and the latter is a major plus. But it's all personal preference.

Personal preference indeed. In my case, the garage spaces I have are generally not for my dailies, and as such there wont be cars coming in with snow, mud, water. I can see the advantage of the freeflow for everyday use though. I personally didn't like the holes design given my use patterns, and when I compared the swatches RD sent me, they were in a different level than the McGuard ones (quality was simply not there).

weighing out the pros and cons of epoxy, or a polished stained concrete, with some sort of coating over it. what do some of you have, and why?

My last house used epoxy and we really tried hard to prep the cement but after 3 years some of the paint came up from hot tires. Especially since I was in and out every day.

So for my new home (which will be my last) I decided to splurge and do porcelain tile using Specralock epoxy grout so I never have to worry about using chemicals to clean it, and it never needs to be sealed. Easy. I also used a membrane and special Keralastic/Kerabond adhesive so this stuff ain't moving.

It's not finished yet. My safe moves out soon.

Love the tile. Do you mind me asking what you paid per sq/ft for the labor? I really want to do this but it's about twice the cost of the next best option.

Great garage art as well. Very tasteful. Not an audiophile, but I'm guessing that's not a cheap set up on the back wall

It likely depends on your local area but where I live tile installation is typically $2/sq ft (Canadian) so $1.50 USD. Maybe a touch more.

Definitely regional. Gathering a few quotes locally. Just trying to gauge how reasonable the labor cost is based on what others are paying around the country.
Just the tile itself is a big expense. Also budgeting in a crack isolation membrane (Dtira, etc) and flexible thinset to help ensure the tiles don't move even if the slab starts to shift, polymer grout for water resistance, Reno transitions. All these costs beyond just the labor is tough to swallow.

Of course and it’s definitely a loaded question.

Labour for the tile is $2 for me and another $1- $1.50 for ditra but that’s with a typical 12” x 12” or 16”x 16” tile and assuming they don’t need to build up the floor for any slope. That being said tile size, patterns, room shape, transitions, etc would all play a role.

Yeah, numbers I'm getting are higher than that. But I'd plan on using larger format tiles. Think too many grout lines would look unsightly. Slab should be even as it was just poured a few months ago.

labour where I'm from does tend to be on the low end... guys really seem to be very busy yet have no money. I did a kitchen a few years ago and it took the guy 10 separate trips and over 2 hours per visit and he billed me $250. I can't complain I suppose.
