Kobalts Great White RS
#1997
I was here at the Ring two ago from Wednesday to Sunday. It was interesting experience how Nürburg went from a ghost town to a more flowering Nürburg.
Except from the excellent TF driving Wednesday and Thursday it was a bit depressing these two days. For instance I was the only person having breakfast at Tiergarten Hotel. As I said a ghost town.
Outside social distancing is applied and as soon as you go inside it is mask on.
On Friday it was Pistenclub trackday and all the sudden Nürburg was back in the game! A lot of cars circulating in the area as this Friday was a when a lot of germans where free from work.
It was so nice to see how Nürburg grow and how restaurant and hotel personal that has been on leave coming back to their jobs. Everybody very happy
I drove my 991.1 RS and my VLN car, the BMW 325 E90. Did a couple of sub 7.30 BTG laps with the RS which is pretty good taking in account that it has been 8 month break in driving.
Laps where a bit sloppy because I, for some reason, drives faster than before and my timing is not adjusted.
78 laps was done so now I'm earning money every lap I drive (Season card)
Can a Porsche sound too much? Maybe this one. It is a 1974 Le Mans RSR build to FIA specs. It got straight pipes unfortunately it was too loud for the Ring so it basically just coasted around the track.
My co drivers RS
Somewhere there is a track
Two classics
These wonderful cars drove in the village and on the track(!). Amazing sound. Brave drivers!
Yeah!!!

Yesterday it was evening TF so we testdrove our VLN car to see if we fixed the cooling problems we've had. It seems to be OK now.
Did 5 laps in the RS and misjudged another car. In my opinion I've should have seen this coming and backed out.
Ended up with a lot of grass from Metzgesfeld in the front grille.

Finally!
Tomorrow it is time for VLN 1 - which was supposed to be held in March.
(VLN has been renamed to NLS but I guess the name VLN will be used for years to come.)
141 cars in total and 20 cars in our class.
Weather forecast until a couple of hours ago predicted heavy thunder and rain. Now it looks much better with just light rain in the morning (When we qualify).
Because of corona there will be no audience and we are not allowed to use the pit boxes.
Instead they have created a new pitlane in the paddock. We will enter the new pit lane thru box 1 and get back to the normal pitlane thru box 2.
Refueling is done in the normal pitlane so we must first go to our "outdoor pit box" to do driver/tyre change and then drive to the fuel pumps.
Normally we refuel and change drivers and tyres at the same time.
There is a minimal pit time limit to relieve pressure from the drivers. (15m30s)
Pitlane is narrow: If we start in dry and get rain it is going to be chaos in the pitlane.
It is sure going to be interesting to see how this panes out.
There is no technical inspection of the cars or our clothes/helmets/HANS and there is no Drivers Briefing.
They will do random checks of cars and drivers.
We might get disqualified if we don't follow the corona rules of the race.
They've really put effort into making this happen even though we are in such a special situation.
Live timing and video can be found here: (Not sure if there is a english version too - there usually is on YouTube.)

It was a tough day. This is the short version:
Qually: Rain then 100% dry: P11
Race: Rain on formation lap then 100% dry. Hot! 31°C when warmest.
We ended up at a totally unexpected 5th place in our class. Our aim for this season was to make it to Top 10.
More details later
