That's nice and convenient. Is it always allowed or special occasion?

Special for special people

(It was possible during Destination Nürburgring trackday. I don't think so many participants realized it.)

Entering Nordschleife from Breidsheid/Adenau.

During Touristdriving you can enter the track in the middle: Down in Adenau.

You still have to pay for a complete lap but when the track is crowded it can be handy to get onto the track fast and easy.

Joining the track at Breidscheid can be tricky if the track is crowded. You need to accelerate quite hard towards steep uphill right hand corner. Especially tricky with stone cold tires..

I’ll be there next week trying!

Brake pads update:

2016-08-12 8400km Changed brake pads all around from original to RE10
2017-05-07 15700km Changed to Ferodo DS1.11 pads in the front (Easier to get my hand on than the RE10's)
2017-05-07 15700km Changed the front disc to a new original one
2017-05-24 25000 km Changed to Ferodo DS1.11 pads in the front
2017-06-04 25500 km Changed to Ferodo DS1.11 pads in the rear (WasRE10)

So in the front the pads lasted:
Original: 8400km
RE10: 7300km
Ferodo: 13200km

The rear
Original: 8400km (These had 8-9 mm left so they would have lasted much longer but I changed them anyway when I switched to RE10's)
RE10: 17100km

The rear pads still got life in them:

So the third RCN race is done.

This time we made it to the checkered flag (RCN2: Gearbox gave up on third lap).

We ended up on 4th place in class (out of 12 cars) and on P28 out of 162 cars in total.

162 cars started, 125 cars finished the race.

In hindsight we made a big fault when doing our set time at 11.25 because if we done a faster set time we would have avoided a lot of yellow flag situations that costed us a LOT of time. But that is racing...

The weather was as always a mystery: "To or not to rain - that is the question". We decided to go just on slicks and even to do the pit job ourself.
In the end we got amazing weather - a bit hot but no rain.

The race itself was like a really bad Touristdriving day. It was dominated by yellow flags. The only yellow free lap was lap 1.
One big crash in Hoherain (Porsche Cup vs Toyota GT86).

Out fastest lap was 8.41 (This was lap one where we normally don't do a good time).
The slowest lap was 10.08.
Our virtual best lap time was 8.11

The variations in lap times and the impossibility to get consistent lap times was frustrating,
Lady luck has a big impact on your laptimes when the race is as problematic as this one was.
For instance I had the bad luck to enter a Code60 zone (Max 60kph) with a towing vehicle in the section: As the tow truck moved ahead, the greens went to yellows.
Had I arrived maybe 30 seconds later I wouldn't even known that there where yellow there... But, that is racing

I drove the first stint and the car was just gorgeous (BMW E46 M3). I got good confidence and for the first time in this car I could start to push.
When stint done I went to the very chaotic pits (In T13) where we managed to do the driver change, checking the tires and refueling within the stipulated time with a margin of 4 minutes.
I went back the hotel and took nice shower and then back to the Old Paddock where the cars go into Parc Fermée, to wait for my teammate to show up.

It looked like we ended up as P3 for a long time but it turned out that the timing system was fooling me.

P4 it was. Our target was better then P8 is good enough. So P4 was a bonus.

We thought we missed the podium but later at the price giving ceremony we still got a price. (A price is a price)

We both where so happy with the race and the car that we entered "Beer land" and just had a wonderful post race afternoon

Backup timer equipment.

The wonderful post race afternoon starts.

A HANS with a good race history.

Parc fermée.

P4 in class
