People who are in the position to spend this kind of money on cars are not used to being told "no". In fact, you don't usually get to that point in life by accepting "no" as an answer. I do think that's part of the whole drama.
For me - the R is pretty cool. It could have been cooler -- think even lighter weight, truly bespoke body panels and a sparse, anti-luxury interior. Oh well, I guess 918 owners have tender bottoms and wouldn't care for such a thing.

Truth!! The Viper has plenty of HP.....but the manual will always slow down 0-60 and Qtr mile times. Another thing to consider, Porsche has always underestimated the Mfr claim. I have never heard of a P-car that a testing magazine was slower than advertised.

Would be interesting to compare the R with a base 991.2 Carrera with manual.
The Carrera is half the price and had a glowing review in a recent issue of Panorama. The new turbo engine is getting good reviews in terms of lack of lag, usable torque for the road, happily winding up to redline, and sounding good, especially with the sport exhaust. The steering feel and PASM calibration appear to be improved in the 991.2 over the 991.1. The shifter feel is also reportedly better than the 991.1. For tires, you can put Cup 2 on a Carrera, but the added grip over a summer street tire isn't really needed for the road. While the R has PCCB, I don't see the benefits being worth the high cost.
So it seems to me that the performance level of a base Carrera may be just as suited - or better suited - for road use than the R, and overall it may be a good choice for drivers seeking a 'purist' road car.

I think the 911R turned out better than some thought. Still somewhat a slap in the face of the "enthusiast" that AP speaks about. I'll give Porsche a suggestion to fix that........ keep the 911R exclusive....(I have my GT3 for the track fun)...........and now let's make the GT4 with an "engine option" and keep the price under 125k. Put the 3.8L 9,000 rpm engine in it....and don't limit the production. Just make that engine choice a 25k upgrade.

I may have miss out on somthing, but as I understand 911 R is like a gt3, hence it will do fine on track. (Sure less downforce, but hey.. we like em lose in the rear, I dont mind anyway) Yes I seen AP on Evo, still its all ok to go hard on track. Please fill in If miss out.

I'm just over here playing with the configuration while whining like a punk
Car is close to my perfect 911. It even has a proper audio system! Its exactly what a road car should be.
AP, get Porsche offer a proper audio system with the next GT3!
