I was out in the car this morning for a drive / breakfast meet and three or four GT3 / GT4 guys has a good look and asked if they were OEM. The material and pattern is different but the finish and quality is excellent.

Very happy with them. People also loved my sons booster seat (look carefully on the passenger seat).

It’s not a lumber cushion, it’s a child’s booster seat on the passenger seat.

I am sure Garry could make up a lumber support for you in the same material but you can also just add a foam pad behind the cushion before you Velcro it back on. Very easy and gives a little lower back support that makes it very comfortable.

How can one do this on the 18-way seats aftermarket? I understand tailoring is involved. Where does one source the material?

I let him know that it was going to be a light use car, and not in the sun much, so he agreed to do it but said that in his opinion, the fabric was not solid enough or thick enough for a seat application.

Additionally, he did not feel that he had the same kind of foam padding which was included by porsche, said he couldn't source the same quality, so we are not proceeding with making new seats, just the covering to velcro over the padding instead of the current alcantara.

wanted to see if anyone had the same feedback..?

I wouldn't worry about it so much. These are high end cars, you don't have kids jumping in and out along with the dog, golf bags, boxes and everything else we put in our daily commuter trolleys. I had the same issue with the leather on my GT3 seats, until upholster stopped and thought about its well. As he said, he is so used to building them to last anything you throw at them, thats his go too consideration.

Id be a bit concerned if just covering over the alcantara. Would not the material tend to want to bunch up ? If they unpick it, they should be able to remove the alcantara to reuse if you ever wanted too?

There is a specialist Porsche interior restorer here in the UK that has material woven to match the early pattern and will soon have ready made, replacement inserts for the LWBS at very reasonable prices. They are very easy to replace (takes 5 mins) and uses the original foam and includes all other fittings. I believe he is the supplier Tom Tweed used for his material and I am sure he would ship to the US at cost.

I am hoping to have a set shortly after Easter and will post some pics - he is pretty much the best early Porsche interior restorer in the UK so I am expecting the quality to be excellent.

Speak to Garry (classicfx on here) or contact via his website http://classiccarrestorationsurrey.co.uk/ - I am sure if there was enough interest, he could do a deal for Rennlisters / group the postage etc.

Pics and options like that make me tilt back towards LWB. Pay the price with listening to the wife complain later. I'm interested Ed.

I posted some details and pictures in this thread. Very well - great for and simple to install. Took about 10 mins. Garry has done a short video to show how it is done. Very reasonably priced and the fit and finish is beautiful. I’ve done 1000 miles in them and they are superb.

There were some concerns noted about the material not being “automotive quality” and “UV resistant”. I’ve had the same material on a classic Porsche for 3 years and there have been no problems or signs of wear. Very happy with them.

Details are on Garry’s website.
