I'm going to venture to guess that the very high cost of that paint job is due to the entire finish having to be hand sprayed and not done in the regular paint line.
I say this because to the best of my knowledge that kind of paint is only available in a solvent based system and not a water based system, and again, to the best of my knowledge, the Porsche paint line is set up for water based paints only.
If this is the case then they'd be upcharging a great deal in order to run the car through paint at a separate facility that's set up to handle solvent based paints.
Of course I could be wrong.

It's expensive, but something ELSE has to account for the extra 80K over what I'd consider to be a reasonable cost under normal circumstances with a paint color that would be compatible with the set-up paint line at the factory.
Also, anyone with a current list able to email/pm it to me? I will keep it to myself. All I really want to see are all the greens that are new from the list posted here.

dude this is Germany they have gone psycho about chemicals, they arent gonna use any solvent paint, watch the video at 22:35, seriously who keeps spreading these rumors, there is no place but Zuffnehausen where they paint bodies
I should have just asked. I got the list of greens from my SA within 5 minutes.
My color has not yet been approved and the window is closing fast (hopefully not closed yet) so we are maybe onto plan B. Thankfully there is a new green on the list I like. I will PM you Eduardo with what it is. I am basically at go now or wait for a year for the next PTS window.

regarding chromaflair paint: (As always) I'm not able to disclose the actual details at PAG. But rest assured that it is generally possible to do such a paintshop on a water-soluble basis.
In fact, e.g. MB passenger cars has been offering this kind of paint as a regular option for ages (perhaps not in NA?). Paint repair can be tricky though...

The 'confidentiality' part is what PAG/PCNA
asks of the approved PTS list. Starting in
mid-2015, Porsche placed the following on
the PTS list which is updated every few
months:
This is basically a 'label' that was inserted just
for us (& me in particular) here at Rennlist!
We are the only ones that have been trying to
explain PTS to the enthusiast community. And
we have done a very effectivd job since July
of 2012.
I first posted the then approved PTS on that
date in 2012. It had then only two pages &
not many PTS colors approved for the 'new'
991/981 models.
Now the list still 4 pages long but with quite
a number of more colors added. And out of
respect for Porsche, I honor their request to
keep the list from my posts here at Rennlist.
But that doesn't mean that a Porsche customer
is not entitled to ask for it from his dealer, read
it & even have a copy of it! In fact, I believe it's
the right of every Porsche customer, or would be
customer, to have a copy of the official PTS list
so that he knows about the option & perhaps
become interested in ordering one of the available
colors for his/her custom Porsche order!

Just go to your dealer & demand to see the
PTS list. And if he doesn't have it, contact
PCNA & ask why not? Be assertive & don't

We should share that secret advice: be a member of the Piech family! Otherwise, expect a nein.
So if one had to bet, when does the PTS window close this year? Seems like we are past the five days (or whatever) of 2015 (or whatever year that was). Had I moved a couple months earlier my plan would have been perfect. I am an optimist and I am hoping it stays open for a while longer so I can stick with Plan A. We will see what mein dealer has to say about a guess. They have been very good and responsive even though they do not do a ton of PTS.
PS at this point I should just accept black or buy another lotus (used exige S of course -- everything good the .gov bans through regulations). While I like the Plan B color, I don't love it like I love my color which has special meaning to me.
PPS Eduardo's information allowed me to concoct this crazy plan so I have to thank him even if it does not work out (which he told me it almost certainly would not work). Lol.

You tell us! You are now a customer of Porsche
with a pending custom .2 991 order & a feasibility
study going on in Germany to determine if they
can do your requested PTS color. Let us know
what PCNA is telling you about the PTS window
on the .2 991 regular (non-gt3) models! If they
don't share that information with you, what chances
are for rest of us to find out this information!

I think you will eventually find out if your chosen
PTS color will be approved. Quite frankly, if PAG
does indeed follows procedures, the color you have
requested will appear on the PTS list as undergoing
feasibility study. So for those with sharp eyes &
access to the PTS list in the future, one might be
able to guess what color you are requesting! So
caveat emptor! The process is pretty transparent!
For example, this color (below) is under feasibility
study for PTS at Porsche at the moment, And all
the world knows about it way before it's approved
or denied! And only one weird guy (most likely)
is waiting for the results.
