Good idea. Although it will take two 5 qt containers.

And figure out how much oil stays in the filter (compare weight to a dry one?)...

That wouldn't work... All the crap in the old filter has some weight.

If there's enough heavy debris in the filter to throw off the calculation, then I think we have more problems than getting the oil level perfect

Well I drained a little less than a half quart (filling a Solo cup to a little less than the half quart measurement) by loosening the filter a little and letting it trickle out while the cup sat in a drain pan....worked very well.....I drove it around the block but it hasn't taken a new reading yet....I'll drive it this weekend and keep a half quart with me to add if necessary when it reads....next time I think I will remove all the sump plugs and add 6 3/4 and go from there....always easy to add than subtract....

Default Crush Rings

Does anyone have the part number for the oil tank copper crush ring? My local dealer is clueless. The aluminum drain plug washers are 900-123-131-30.

I recently ordered an oil change parts kit from Suncoast Porsche which is arriving Thursday. IIRC the little parts come in individual bags with PN on them. If you don't have the info before then, I'll post the oil tank crush ring PN when I receive the kit.

I just completed my first oil change on my 2015 GT3. I didn't want to overfill so I only poured in about 6.5 Quarts of oil at first. I started the car to let it idle for a few minutes so that I could get an oil measurement, but a warning message said "the oil is below the minimum level, do not drive and add oil immediately". I added another quart or so, and now it's at the recommended level.

Has anyone ever seen the below minimum level message before? I just got the car and this is the first oil change. Could I have done any damage to the engine idling for a few minutes below minimum level?

I seriously doubt you did any damage. 6.5 qts should be enough to ensure oil pressure when sitting level. Did you happen to notice if the oil pressure gauge was at zero more than a second or two when first starting?

This car has a very sensitive oil indicator system. You got lucky by adding a quart and the level was perfect. It is very easy to chase your tail from too low to overfill. I start by adding 7 liters and adjust from there 2 oz at a time.

No, I didn't think to check the oil pressure gauge. I should have. I turned the car on right after adding 6 1/2" quarts and let it idle for about 5 minutes until it let me get an oil level reading.

Yea, luckily I was right on the money once I added the last quart. I was just worried that idling with only 6 1/2 quarts might do some harm.

Thanks for the info. I will make sure to add 7 quarts at first and then add more slowly from there next time.

I agree with Grant; highly unlikely that any damage was done especially since the engine was idling only...no high revs. And SmokinGTS is right on about adding oil only in small increments. If you pull all 3 drain plugs (both sump plugs and the tank plug), remove the filter, and let everything drain for a while you're probably safe adding 7 quarts initially. After that, you'd still be wise to add only a couple of ounces at a time, run the engine, then recheck before adding more oil otherwise it is indeed easy to "chase your tail" between underfill and overfill as SmokinGTS stated so well.

Quick update on the parts detailed above...I also, like Mike, bought the oil filter kit ultra early on which came with the oil sump washers only (ending in -30), and the green rubber o-rings. Just realized as I was going to do the change on my own now. Bought parts 2 years ago. Did not get shipped the oil tank washer (brass apparently andending in -20), and all drain plugs sent are the same size as the usual oil sump plug on most models.
To be sure, the oil tank washer and oil sump washer are not interchangeable? And is the drain plug also not interchangeable? I can't find a current proper PET set of documents to compare, and would prefer real experience.

BTW, thanks for the great DIY, even though I've read it for years now.
