How to do a DIY 991 GT3 Oil Change
#181
I used a Foxwell handheld scanner. Works great! Also used it on a Macan to retract the rear brake pistons for changing rotors.

Hi guys, just checking this old thread. DIY instructions for oil change are pretty straightforward/easy.
My question is: once covered all the "elbow grease stuff", has anyone tried successfully to reset the service oil warning light?
I read that Durametric scanner does the job, but according to the website, the 991.2 GT3 and GT3RS are not supported. Some say that the launch USD 90 scanner can do the job or the Autel MD806.
Has anyone done it?
Recently on April, Matt from OG posted a video on his servicing the GT3RS but stated that he had to go to the dealership to have this light off.
Thanks!
Edson.

My dealer also will reset the light for free, but I'd rather just do it myself and save myself the trip.
If you're thinking of buying the iCarSoft, make sure you buy the V2.0 model, not the POR-II model. I bought the POR-II model and I could not reset the oil service message. Returned it and got the V2.0 model and it worked perfectly!

What else can it do, besides service light? My understanding (last time I checked) was that many of the other functions don't work on .2

I ended up calling around and someone helped me out for free.

Hi everyone, old Turbo owner here.
I've been curious about GT3 ownership for a while now and was wondering about if the GT3 is DIY-friendly.
Then I received the Excellence Buyers Guide yesterday which contained this statement:
"DIY No More
Modern cars in general are challenging for the shade-tree mechanic and the 991 ushered in a whole new era of difficulty. The most significant issue is that the factory diagnostic computer - non-Porsche specific computers no longer offer enough control - is required for even minor maintenance, such as changing the oil, flushing the cooling system or bleeding the brakes."
Apparently this is not an accurate statement regarding oil changing and the use of the proper aftermarket scanner.
Would anyone care to comment on the veracity of rest of the statement concerning brake & coolant flushing and other faults in general?
Thanks.

BTW, the torque spec for the bleeder valves is 130 inch-pounds
