I am first having the car flat bedded from the dealership to the detailer for paint protection, clear bra, and window tint, and we are leaving Sunday for 10 days in Carmel and Monterey for the Historic Races, Concours, etc. I should finally get to drive it when we get back on the 20th.

I'm going with OptiCoat Pro and Suntek PPF and OptiCoat Pro on top of the PPF.
It's not really "lifetime." I believe it's a number of years--but for our purposes and how we will likely care / garage the vehicles, it may as well be "lifetime."
There is a better coating now--Modesta. The depth and gloss is out of this world. But on light colored cars, the visual impact is not nearly as great as on darker colors. If I got Agate Gray, Guards Red, any Black, or the PTS Blues? Modesta all the way.

Are these glass coatings like opti-pro and modesta in lieu of films/clear-bra to protect car from stone chips etc?
Do they make the ownership prospects of a black or dark paint car less difficult to keep it looking good?

Just read up on this, interesting technology... So you're supposed to have car clearbra'd, and then coated over the bra as well.. This keeps the bra looking good, and the car stays shiny even after industrial car washes with no swirls. This is really cool stuff for someone considering a dark car. Can't believe I never knew about these products.

For darker colors, check out Modesta. The results are amazing.

I also read up on it and I need to learn more. It appears very harsh and if not put on correctly you can have issues.
I just use once a year, which I will do a week after delivery and every Spring, a mild paint preparation lotion that you apply like wax and wipe right off followed by Rejex or Wolfgangs paint sealant. Then Pinnacle liquid wax, when needed, every 6 to 8 weeks.

But assuming correct application, I read that these coatings obviate the need for all the work you just described no?
This is incredible
Really seems to take the fear out of owning a black or dark blue car.

But the hard part is finding the right detailer. The paint correction and application by a true professional is what sets going this route apart from standard periodic detailing.
