Re breakin period, if any one of you spend time at one of Porsche school, ask them what breakin period they follow, what happens to their engines and what the value is post 30,000 miles on the track, once they sell them on the used car market. Here's what I got:
1. No breakin period - on the track first day (I drove a turbo S that was 1 day old and had <100 miles...) and hit the limiter at least 7 times over the course of 10 lapses...
2. They seem to rev more freely but nothing bad otherwise - though they are maintained meticulously
3. They get a premium for their cars and there's a waiting list to buy them

So... You make your own decisions. I've made mine. Plus I'm already going to be on engine #2 when I get the car so I'm not too worried about serial numbers matching....

My car has 1200 miles and I think I was up to 7000 RPM by the time I surrendered the car. I guess I just confessed that I broke the rules, and my luck I get a call again tomorrow from lovely Katrina saying you have been denied getting the new engine for exceeding 4500 RPM, and your car will be returned back to you AS IS, for not following the break in instructions, and there will be no compensation offered to you if your old engine goes up in flames! Good luck to you....
It's been thrashed to death before but the factory told me take it easy first tank of gas with mine then drive it like I intend to own it. 2000+ miles in Europe and they were very pleasant too I must say. Above. 7000 rpm that engine is just sublime. It's difficult to fathom how owners who had this car a month or more did not enjoy this thing. When you get your new engine follow the euro/Porsche driving guidelines and just drive it. Life bus short ! My run in will be 300 mile drive to start my annual 3 track tour with the car and when it returns it will have 1500 miles on it half them from the track...

Well said.
I am not going through another break in procedure. As you suggested, I will take it easy on first tank then that beast is going to the track. Should have done that the first go around. Mark

Got an update, from March 21 completion to August???? completion ready for ED by Sept 12. I thought the factory shut down in August so not sure why or how for the August completion date but the Sept 12 ED pick up makes sense. Looks like I won't be driving this thing on US soil until November just in time for ski season!!!

I have a Sep 12 EU pick up now also. It was moved from May 16. I have doubts about that day also. I heard Porsche was doing something special which they did not elaborate for those of us doing EU pick up on Sep 12.

No update today. So the rumor of 'insider info just hot from Spain" regarding a Friday announcement was just that. I'm gonna go rev my car in the garage, real hard before the exhaust gets real hot. Hope I don't damage the engine.

No i'm pissed. I only went to about 6 K RPM or maybe close to 7k.. .. in the 1k miles I had the car. Sounds like a whole new beast above 6,500. I'll be wondering till I get the car back!! Dang!

My car sits in the garage with 498 miles, which included 4 track visits, with progressive break-in. The 4th was full out to 9000 rpm! Ran perfectly. Allan . I guess i'll have to go thru the same process again.

The sound and thrust between 7-9K is in a different class. You can get a hint of it between 5 and 7K

Well, as I'm sure all would agree, "learning the PDK" is easy, like in a day. You will probably find yourself smashing the left side of the brake pedal with your left foot at times to downshift and hit nothing but the floor, then it'll hurt and you'll be done doing that 18th century thing.
