Our LP560 overheated in Beirut's hot weather after an aggressive 10mins drive uphill through the mountains!

I wont be able to participate in the race group without roll bar, but hope to watch the racing in October when I do open track on the Porsche day :-)
Limp mode is bad news for me, hot weekends are the norm here in Florida. Not acceptable. Hammering 997 for hours and hours is never limp mode!
A/C no use here with the windows open mandatory and stupid...

Look at the "SuperTest" in Sport Auto. Test was partially at 36° C and partially at 26° C.
At weekend SportsCup at RedBullRIng in Austria RS have been roughly 2 sec faster then GT3 on a track with approx. laptime of 1:41 (RS) to 1:43 (GT3). Most of the RS had barely enough miles for the full attack. One guy drove two nights to get the requirred 3000 km because car arrived just a few days before the event .... Probably when people are used to them they will get even a bit faster (Set up and how to drive is yet not fully explored - my 0.02 $).
Both variants had issues with going into limp mode (some of them - not all). When oil temp hits > 124° C then limp. I drove with AC on (ambient was yet again a brutal 36° C) and never saw more then 118° C oil temp. But I am always manually short shifting at max 8500 rpm. Rumors say it is actually the PDK which is limiting - not the engine (temp wise) - anyone information on this? I am using 5- 50 oil. should also help somewhat ...
RS was around as fast as 997GT2RS but also some 996 Cup cars on street tires (also allowed in the SportsCup races) where fricking fast. Can't beat low weight. On the brake those old Cups are really strong ....
Peter
PS: Saw my RS on Monday - waiting for the wrap. Hope to have first drive next week Friday. Keep u posted

I reached "only" 118° C peak oil temp running 5W-50 Mobil 1 and AC on which gives extra load. Maybe limiting the revs to 8400 - 8500 ish (always shifting up manually even when running in auto mode) helped and I do not have the feeling that this slows me down at all
Maybe a good idea to even go to 10W-60 oil in very hot climates. Someone should compare what this does to the oil temp ....

Yes - also 997 GT3 and RS where at the event. Don't know what oil temp they reached but as far as I saw they did not have this problem. I also did not have the "overheating" problem. As mentioned it could be the PDK and not the motor which is the problem. I thin 124° C oil temp is high but not killer .... 36C doesn't really seem hot enough to be causing issue with the engine. A few weeks ago some others here commented how surprised they were their 991 gt3 kept running at a 113F = 45c track day in the states. They were also running 20-30 min sessions. However they were not racing which makes a difference.
To me like Peter suggests, I think it sounds more like a transmission heat issue not engine.
The time differential is about what I would expect on that length track - this translates to around 1.1s at my local track which is similar style.
Break in km not such a big deal. After second engine we ran out of patience and 3 NZ owners myself included took to track after 600km no issues since and set my personal best on that track that day first time out.

In humidity central Sebring now with Thunderstorm rains predicted, but we must run windows down
Met one fellow rennlister, Ina 991GT3, here for the second time. Last Sebring visit he went home after 2! Laps and lost all even gears. Porsche opens the box and fixed it. Not great news to hear let's hope he can run hard tomorrow before it rains.
