I got an early deposit too. Even if I'd prefer the 3RS, I can't afford that and don't want centerlocks and PDK. I think the GT4 will have manual, otherwise I'll pass.

^^ and a very cool relic with GT3 motor

I hope that the Cayman GT4 manual details are known before I have to decide between 991RS and CGT4.

Is this "gt4" confirmed? I asked someone at the factory and got nothing. Im guessing what folks are calling gt4 is like a cayman R before?

Correct. It's the lighter, more extreme, version of the 981 Cayman (just as the Cayman R was to the 987.2, or the Cayman S Sport to the 987.1). I'm hoping / expecting / presuming the 981 Cayman GT4 will be a significant step up from the Cayman R in terms of extreme-ness, and it would appear so based on spy shots.

What it'll actually be called is anyone's guess.

No, it is not officially confirmed that it's being released but its development was confirmed by Andreas Preuninger (head of GT cars). Seems very likely but not 100%. No, this is not a Cayman R. Cayman R added 10hp and this car is rumored to add ~ 100hp, GT3 brakes, suspension, LSD, PDK-S (for those that want it and manual for those who don't), 5-lug wheels, etc.

Here are the spy shots:

Not confirmed yet, but given the spy shots and balance of rumors it would be surprising if it doesn't show. As for what it is, not clear yet- the rumors seem clustered between 380 and 430 hp, so a more serious effort than the Cayman R to justify the new badge.

At the rate of GT production you can put a deposit down when the car is deputed pre production and maybe 2 years later get one , so where is that date 2016 0r 2017. I bet they don't release anything official on Cayman ?
till after Gt3 RS roll out at best.

Grant AP didnt comment on this car. The quotes were from one media source and they simply said "AP likes mid engined cars". I think youll find no one on APs team are working on this car...

Again Grant, I cannot accept this car will have +100 bhp if its is still naturally aspirated. This car will be 350-360 bhp Im sure you will see. Porsche will not cross their market and alter their product roadmap to create contention like this with existing platforms. Perhaps new platforms yes but not existing ones - the product road maps are set 6 years in advance and become fairly concrete 2 years out. What you are seeing now was signed off over 18 months ago.

Id be the first to put my hand up for a manual 440 bhp Cayman with track oriented gear on it don't get me wrong.

Im sorry to be a naysayer but it aint happening and Ill eat my hat with pleasure if it does!

My information is that the engine being considered is the naturally aspirated 3.8L X51 option from the Carrera S that makes 430 hp at 7,500 rpm (with 7,800 rpm redline) in that car. Placed inside the more constrained location in the 981, it may make a few less hp, due to a more restrictive intake.

The timing of this car is likely to be close to the facelift 991.2 Carrera. Both Carrera and Carrera S will be turbo Flat-6 then and the S will easily outpace this car in a straight line with a big torque infusion (and the usual incremental power bump).

Here's an old article about AP speaking about a potential GT Cayman:

That would surprise me, though it could certainly be the case. I'd mainly be surprised because I wouldn't think Porsche's CEO would mention a "GT4" if he wasn't dropping a hint. I would also expect a "GT4" to come out of AP's group. I could be a red herring, but I suspect these things are rarely done by accident.

As for power levels, clearly they are capable of doing whatever they want. However the GT3 justifies the badge by adding about 50 hp over the hottest standard 911s, so 380 hp, 50 up on the Cayman GTS, wouldn't seem out of line.

Pete - let's not shortchange ourselves. That would make 390 hp (GTS has 340). But of course I like the X51 rumor more
