Not a fan of this RS
I have one now (997.2 RS..avatar) but passed on the 991
Just too busy for me...the concave (convex?) roof & frunk, vents cut into every fender, huge wing and the tractor-sized 21" rear wheel. Hope the final version is better in person
The 3.8RS looked liked a teenager with red lipstick that was overdone. However, the 4.0 is perfect. This new RS makes the 3.8RS look tame. If those front fender vents are for cooling/aero, then I hope it can be proven to work. Else, it's like sticking coffee cans on the back on a honda civic exhaust. I may let my deposit go if the final version doesn't look good. What a shame. I think the best deal right now is the GT3.

Just need to make sure I can grab one. I was led to believe the GT3 would be difficult to obtain...it was not. I'm led to believe the RS will be near impossible...I'm thinking it'll just be difficult. Fingers crossed and money deposited.
FWIW, the wing is a touch too racer and the front fender vents are vette-esque but I'm loving the overall package and anticipating the performance.
Regarding the front fender aero vents...it looks 919 to me...

From conversations I've had with multiple P dealers, I don't believe it'll be too difficult for serious buyers to get a build on an RS.
Vivian.
I share your belief. Although my dealer couldn't get me one as I believe they've sold several 918s. What helps those of us that really want one is it will not be a numbered limited edition (i.e. # of 600) car. Now I just need to figure out what to do with my February GT3 once June/July roll around .
If you can find a dealer that will take a deposit you are in luck, if you get an allocation for it you hit the Jackpot. One of the largest in the country by volume told me he is allocated half of the # of deposits he already has.

Aren't those items the whole point to RS version? It's all business....the same can be said about the differences between 7.2 GT3 vs 7.2 RS. While maybe not as dramatic with exterior changes as the previous version I don't want a RS with sacrifices myself? I am told that the new wide track was creating some high speed front end lift and the fender vents were added to evacuate air buildup in fender wells. It also sounds as if the car creates a lot more drag overall than current GT3 that is why original runs at n-ring weren't dropping lap times vs regular GT3 as much as they were expecting. I am hearing lap times are now running just under 7:15s...over a 5 second improvement to RS from earlier this year.

This is what Im hearing too through a third party who was involved in tyre testing for a Porsche race team and who spends alot of time at the Ring. The aero cannard devices placed on Ring mules was to compensate for the fact the the fender vents were covered and assisted in dropping the ring time 4-5s a lap.
Im very excited about the new 991 GT3RS dont get me wrong. It will do good for the whole GT3 image and will definitely outperform the current crop of supercars including the Speciale which is remarkable as again it will likely be considerably cheaper than the latter. This generation the car is a "big visual statement" backed up with some exotic tech. Nothing has really changed since AP alluded to what this car will be in relation to the cooking GT3 - namely a uncompromised track machine with few concessions to its road going breathern.
A couple of points I noted a number of months ago on these boards. Im still told 515 bhp (seems fair its a 40 bhp upgrade on the GT3 after all). 4.0L. PDKS only. Top speed will headline the same as the GT3 at 315kmph (drag will offset increased torque).
The RS looks like a pornstar...but could you live with her every day ? The standard 3 is someone your mother could love.
That's the issue for me. This RS will be a spectacular track performer, no doubt, but certainly compromised as a road car compared to the 3, both visually and practically. I could also have had an RS allocation, but passed. The pornstar has appeal, but I prefer someone lower maintenance with a bit more....reserve.
Needless to say the RS will be "special" no doubt, but it's not to be compared to the reg. GT3. Looks are one thing, performance is the big thing though. I for one am not a fan of the looks for a couple of reasons, some previously have been stated....front fender vents, turbo style rear vents and mostly the over size wing. It will certainly kick *** on the track, but it's just not for me.
