Very interesting if true, and not typical for most Porsche models AFAIK.

This "early guinea pig" thing is nonsense on GT3 IMHO. Its probably fair to say between 991.1 and 991.2 GT3 there will be improvements that address known weaknesses but this is a car that will be in production 18-20 months and by teh time any weaknesses are known (customer takes delivery, drives for a few months etc) it wont be possible to easily manage changes on the production line. As always these will be managed by way of recall. Generally speaking the 996 & 997 GT3 suffered no worse malladys than any new 911 and quite honestly this argument is a red herring as the car delivered Q1 2014 will likely be identical to teh one delivered Q3 2014 (apart form some options that may become available later in the production run)....
As I mentioned I was one of the first buyers (in the US) on 4 models. I would not say that my issues were due to (poor early) design or lack of testing or early production part related. However, these cars are now getting more and more electronics including software. These electronic control modules all need to "cooperate" together to "make things happen" and this stuff is getting more difficult to test and difficult to troubleshoot. But the fixes are also easier --> simple reflash or recalibration, etc.
We'll see what happens. I still do NOT have a firm date.

My dealer got 10.
2 this year and 8 for the balance of '14 (2 per quarter.
Do I pull the trigger for this year or for next?
The order is in the computer all I have to do is say the word!

You'd have to buy at least ten more new Porsches from them to match the money they're making off of a single 918 buyer. Get in the line, I guess.
Me? I'll maybe buy a CPO'd 5k miles one in 2016 for $95k if beta-testers show that the non-Mezger motor doesn't implode and the CLs don't fly off at the track. With bucket seats, too. Or I'll wait till BGB or some other shop drops the "GT3" motor into a Cayman for < $90k in 2017.

Waiting for the aforementioned will be a lot longer than that.
Because the Mezger doesn't have any issues; coolant lines, cam actuator, RMS, intake hardware, etc.. ? Current CLs don't fly off?
Why is it people who hate this car visit this thread?
