Funny story....Just 3 weeks ago I responded to someone on a FB thread about the 991.1 gt3rs. They were asking how reliable it was. I went on about how I drive my cars, track my cars and enjoy them. That my 2016 has 31,500 miles on it with now issues. Well that bit me in the ***!! Three days later I turn left at a stop light, with no warning the motor shuts down and I get warnings about lost compression and do not drive. It will not start. I tow it to the shop. Video shows a piston slap in cylinder #4 and no compression. We pull the motor and open her up. Broken valve spring in #4.
No warning, no issues up until this point. And of coarse out of warranty and Porsche won't cover it. So the rebuild has begun!!! Anyone else break the bulletproof 4.0 yet? Do I get an award?
any modifications to your motor?....exhaust, tuning?

Small end of valve stem broke off. Luckily, still in valve spring and not floating around in the engine. No apparent head damage or major piston damage.
Valve is surly bent, valve guide looks ok, but will be checked with a mic. Parts are being cleaned
New parts may be here tomorrow.
Just FYI, sold my 16RS with 40K, at 20K a cooling pipe broke and 19RS with 20K and new gearbox because it was leaking.
Thats it just replace spark plugs and belts every 6000 (track) miles.

Any thoughts on how the valve broke? could it have something to do with the carbon buildup common to most DI engines?
Go legal - I wouldn't cut Porsche any slack on any 991.1 GT car engine. 31K miles is nothing - its a defective part, not wear and tear.
i have been thinking about this. Depending on the repair bill really. I'm not sure I want to waste valuable time and money going after them. Maybe just an email showing the issue will be a start.

How do you "go legal" in this case? Is there a legal footing here? Isn't it on the owner at this point because its out of warranty - even if it "shouldn't" have failed this prematurely? I'm just playing devils advocate here.
