I can't tell you how to measure risk or spend money, but if your SA is familiar with replacements of the normal one then it may not hurt to explore what the labor charges would be to drop it out and visually inspect and remove any doubt before the CPO expires. IIRC, others have paid around $2200 but I'm sure there's tons of variance there. But maybe it's possible to scope as a preliminary measure? May not be a bad option to explore either. Would be curious to know what they respond with.

Worst case, you wasted $2200~ and know that after all that track time that everything is tip top and there's nothing to worry about going forward, which isn't a bad price tag to rest easy.

The bolded part is the point of concern, we know there was a change at some point mid-cycle update to switch to DLC cams but not sure when. Up until then the MA176 was no different than the factory 2016 MA175 (G0) and people have still killed those (although a little more difficult).

Just go back to post #49 on this thread, no different than what the .1 GT3 guys (including myself) had. Non-DLC cams and scoring all over.

Interesting with respect to the mid-cycle 991.1 GT3 RS update using DLC cams. My GT3 RS was one of the last produced in November 2016 (which is why the CPO expires in 6 weeks, which is 6 years after production.), so perhaps, it has just been a long series of unfortunate problems that have caused the same dash warning (as in the misfire code) to pop up repeatedly. . .

I would definitely extended the Porsche Approved program on my '16 RS if I'd kept the car.

I had some camshaft sensors fail and every time it happened my stomach hurt because I was afraid that the engine needed being replaced.

I have a 2016 GT3RS with 15K miles and not a hiccup thus far. I bought the car with 147 miles and have never tracked the car but it is my daily driver.

Can we use ZDDP additives in these engines? Or is there an oil that Porsche approves for cars still under warranty that has a higher ZDDP content?

I was informed by my local dealership that there are no Porsche warranties to extend a CPO. He offered after market warranties, including the SafeGuard…. Is this everyone else’s experience?

Most ZDDP additives are for older engines and not for CATs & O2 equipped vehicles. Amazon sells tons of brands many with high ratings.

There's a long post on extended warranties on this forum. Jump to the last page you should find what you are looking for.

From my understanding there are hardly any for *RS*, you can extend GT3 - but not GT3RS

Care to elaborate? Asked my Porsche dealer and they said the same, no OEM warranty extension for GT3RS. As far as popular aftermarket options, like Fidelity, I heard on the separate thread they won't cover 3RS either

So far have not seen or heard of good coverage for .1 3RS, unless you're willing to risk an insurer living up to their word on a system glitch allowing a single MY 3RS to squeeze through unintentionally in this case... look at the last post on page 10 and see if that assuages worries

Not endorsing or promoting a product, simply pointing to the availability of an extended .1 RS warranty.

Just a reminder, while Fidelity does not provide extended warranty coverage for Porsche GT cars, our other provider Freedom Warranty does. You can reach me at tgibson@highline-autos.com or (855) 924-1333 for quotes and example contracts. We have Freedom Warranty customers with Hondas to Bugattis, claims accepted at all manufacture dealerships and licensed independents in the country. Highline Autos customers have 100% claims acceptance with both of our extended warranty providers.
