991.1 GT3RS failures

If the car is under warranty and an A40 is a must, I'd Motul 8100 X-Cess 5w40 has always worked well. Liqui-Moly is another option for an A40 approved oil. Both Motul and Liqui-Moly offer full SAPS A40 approved oils.
The tricky situation here is that if you have one of the cars with the extended warranty, will using a non-A40 approved oil that has a stronger anti-wear package void the warranty? I can't say for sure, but if I owned one of these cars, I wouldn't care about the warranty and I'd rather use a lubricant that will provide superior protection. But then again, I've bought brand new Porsche cars in the past to take them apart to do development work, voiding the warranty, so I'm an outlier.
Anecdotally, two years ago when I was at Tech Tactics East, after my presentation, a group of owners with models afflicted with this finger/follower and cam wear approached me. One was on his third engine, but another owner stated that he was aware of one car that had no issues on the original engine (as verified by used oil analysis), but the first thing that was done was to dump the Mobil 1 in favor for better oil. If memory serves me, that car was in Canada and was running Liqui-Moly. I do talk to lots of people at these events, so I may be a little off on the details.

I think they built more .1 RS than regular .1 GT3, yet this problem seems to be a very rare occurrence for the RS. It wasn’t really that widespread with the GT3 either, but we heard about almost every incident here. In any case if you are one of the unlucky ones i am sure Porsche will take care of you, even if out of warranty, because they told us the .1 RS was not impacted. If a FF wear issue is the culprit they pretty much own it. Just reference the COG meeting and you should be golden.
“What about the 991.1 GT3 RS and 911 R? While these engines share a similar architecture with the GT3, according to Dr. Walliser these models are not affected. He explained that there are many differences between the GT3 and R/RS engines. This seems to be consistent with our observations, as there are no known reports of issues with these models.”

We never focused on the RS engine because there were no failures due to FF wear that we knew of at the time we approached PAG. But anyone who got a new 3.8 engine shortly after our COG meeting should have the new engine. Over the past 1.5+ years the number of 3.8 engine failures have dropped significantly which leads me to think they sorted it out. The test data they shared with us also supports it.

What are the VIN# cutoffs for the Rev 1 and Rev 2 series engines?

Got word from the dealer today, getting a new engine for excessive oil consumption. No word on what the actual failure is but seems to be a semi-common problem from this thread. Dealer had already rebuilt top-end and it did not fix the issue. Hopefully the new engine will be a good one.
