While these are in the system it is possible they don't all get built. That said, in our experience, there are very few that once they are in the system don't actually get built.
this is great info Pors9. I’m quite surprised they are building the same amount of 2RS as 3RS. What is the earliest VIN and or production date you have for 3RS? I don’t see anything earlier for N.A. then 164064 built on 7-5.

All models start at 061.

Will update again at end of this calendar year.

When you say, “in the system” what system are you referring to?

It's clearly in dealership's best interest to keep production numbers unknown so they can better manage the image of scarcity and associated dealer markups.

Good answer! Watching people try to estimate Porsche GT production is a bit like watching 4 monkeys hump a football. Rather foolish, but intriguing nonetheless.

no the monkeys are the dealers and the footballs are the customers ... but don't get me started on ADM's

also there is a difference between Porsche VINs issued for production and VINs reserved with NHTSA. they do both tell you something though.

for NHTSA an initial block of VIN's are submitted then added to if production is extended beyond that block or into another model year with a new block. here is an example of what I mean ... for model 991810 2018 GT3

- this is the last VIN (most current ending) VIN in the Porsche system as of today ... WP0AC2A91JS177067

- but this VIN already exists (the very next one in sequence) in the NHTSA system ... WP0AC2A93JS177068

so you see Porsche has already submitted a block of 'valid' VIN's to NHTSA that they believe should more than cover the 'actual' VIN's they will need for production. then they use them as they issue VIN's to their internal production system.

final note: in our experience VINs in the Porsche system does not always mean finished in production (but the number is close).

Don’t feel bad. I was all 4 monkeys and the football with the .1RS production numbers when I did my calculations and extrapolated ~3500 to 4000 WW with 1500 in NA. Was laughed at, ridiculed, and worse at times. They said there was 6000, 7000 etc. WW. I was crazy they said. Ok, that’s true but it turned out I was right on the numbers. They even started referring to my beloved LO RS as a salmon! ..Don’t ask.

I did my calculations without vins but did use info from Loess which was helpful.

I think you are spot on and this info is helpful and important (not sure why though ) but if nothing else fun and interesting.. at least to me and you. In fact, I said over a long time ago .2 3RS production would be much less than .1RS. It was obvious to me any way.

Keep up up the good work and don’t let them know what color your RS is.

Appreciate it Waxer. You were clearly right on with 2016. I enjoy both cars and numbers especially when it comes to Porsche so it’s natural I would track every VIN in the US. We’ll see with .2 3RS but I don’t think I’m too far off and am willing to take the slack if I’m wrong.
As for color, my WP 3RS did literally lock today, guess what color haha.
