Cant' Get an Allocation for a 991.2 GT3... So What's the next best thing
So what should I get instead?
2016 Cayman GT4 Manual
991.1 911 GTS Manual
997.2 911 GT3 Manual
McLaren 570S (Used)
2016 Audi R8 V10 Plus Coupe (Used)
Acura NSX
Ferrari 458 (Surprisingly can now be purchased for ~$160k)
My budget is $175,000.
I don't have to have the most expensive car, just the best car to drive under this price point. Hell it can cost $60,000 if it's the best car for the experience.

The 991.1 GT3 is literally the next best thing to the 991.2 GT3. But if you need a manual...

Also, those cheaper 458's are the older style transmission(some love, some hate) and don't include the maintenance package.

The car will be a weekend car. I wanted the 911 GT3 because it was coming in a manual and I love NA engines. All of the cars I named have great sounding engines... aside from the NSX. I want to be able to track it from time to time as well. I just want something that's engaging and a hoot to drive really. I live close to the north Georgia mountains and love to go driving up there as well.

Depending upon your location and intended usage, you might consider the 981 Spyder as well.
I'm in the same boat, currently have a '14 C2S and '16 Spyder. A GT3T would be the prefect add to my retirement garage. My plan is to wait it out, see if any allocations pop or any builds near my preferred spec come available either in dealer inventory or secondary market. Absent that my list would be short:
GT4 981 or the new one (go through the same games)
991.1 GT3RS
Any car has to have LWBs and the only car I would pass on a manual for would be the .1 RS.

For the Porsche that's how I feel. Like it HAS to be a manual. For the other cars not so much. I wonder if I'm the only one that only has this expectation of Porsche. Like I want to be involved in that aspect of the car, but if I drove something like a Lamborghini I wouldn't care. Is that just me or does anyone else feel like that?

He is sold on the PDK after seeing what it is really like - not videos or written articles. But in the car driving. This car has way too much performance for a manual imo, and he now says the same thing.

A buddy of mine and his wife were staying with us for the past month. This guy is a hard core manual fanatic. He felt the PDK was the only real negative to my GT3 - until he drove it. Now he thinks the PDK is the ideal configuration for the car, because it unlocks all the performance the car can offer.

What are you currently driving? If you are really feeling the itch to get something now but still want to see if GT3 allocations open up next year, I would get a GT4. You'll love how it drives and sounds, and it won't lose a ton of value in the next 12-18 months.
If you aren't willing to wait around and want to go all in, then 997.2 GT3RS for a manual or McLaren 570S for flappy paddles.
