Cant' Get an Allocation for a 991.2 GT3... So What's the next best thing

I personally don'k like the 488 (thankfully this way I don't need to buy one!).

The 488 is faster of course but the puny looking motor bothers me and I'm a N/A guy all the way.

Even money I'd take the 458 all day long. But I have friends who prefer the 488. So it's up to the individual.

Pretty clear here.... 458 for beacoup bucks while GT4 (or even the 7.2-3) for bang for the buck. Often many of us just like to bang bang.

I've never driven a 458 but the California was an amazing car. Definitely underrated. A lot more trackable than it looked. I see a lot of 458's for around $150k to $170k now so there are finally obtainable for me. I remember when they were $300k - $350k. That's taking a lot of hit for a vehicle. That's the only thing that scares me about the Ferrari's is the amount of depreciation. If I get the 991.2 GT3 and pay MSRP I could get that back in 2021 easy. But in 2021 the 458 may sell for $100,000 to $110,000 possibly. I don't want to lose that kind of money if I don't have to. I want to always be able to walk away from my weekend car if something happens to me financially without taking a big hit. Although people see us spending $150,000, they don't realize that the car is just "holding" the money so it isn't going anywhere. Sure I could be putting it in places where it is appreciating, however, I'm fine with just staying still if I get to drive these amazing vehicles.

Anyway, I digress. So what about the expected depreciation on the 458 compared to the 991.2 GT3

Problem I see with any Ferrari is you can’t put miles on them or they get slaughtered. Much more fragile than a German Car.

I have been looking at alternatives to the 991.2 GT3 as well. I really like the look of the MB AMG GTS Edition 1. The price is getting close to 100k now for low mileage car. I am only interested in the Edition 1. I have attached an add below, no affiliation but these guys have the best photos.

Drove one recently, couple of things, very quick turn in, loose rear (not to be confused with jiggly), confined greenhouse and hard to see out of, hard seat bottom, very firm ride and bouncy on concrete roads in Houston. new at 150k I would be dissapointed, next year used price around 80-90k, a great value car. Sounds amazing.

I got this GT4 with 300mi on it, over MSRP mind you, but much cheaper than a GT3 obviously. Still hopes of getting GT3 allocation if any extras are announced. Depreciation on GT4 should be minimal. And if it doesn't work out, I have an awesome manual GT car.

Added new Ohlins R&T to my car last month, the ride is transformed. It is amazing. I set the ride height 9mm below Ohlin recommendation which is lower than stock. Stance looks great.

^Nice! Not as fast nor even close to the strength of the new GT3.2 4-liter's... but the GT4 still handles like on rails and still very much fun to drive on or off the track!

Here... let's coax nastinupe1 the OP to get a GT4 instead (oh just ignore that .2 next to it)....

Edition ones were just that, the first AMG GT, and they had some issues. They also had fixed roof which IMO closes car in. And you have a fixed rear wing.

Your much better off getting a 2017. 2 years of manufacturing refinement, slower steering better shock valving and get a pano roof. Opens up interior.

With a tune you have 600 hp/600 tq.

I am really biased, obviously, but here goes. Almost bought a 458 earlier this year great car, great engine with a great track attitude as well. GT4 another great car, good engine with a great chassis and suspension great manual gearbox. Both midengine with all the benefits and negatives(lack of cabin space). I love the rear engined cars and the 991 is the most stable of those setups. The GTS in manual is one of the best road cars I have ever driven, a real goldilocks car. On track still fun but not as purpose built as the 458 and GT4, but still very capable and in my view just as fun and way more comfortable on the road and just as fun. When Porsche went to the turbo really killed the GTS and luckily I love the suspension in the GT3 for the Street so a Touring pack GT3 for me, but if I didn't get an allocation I would be combing the ads for a GT Silver 911.1GTS.........of course I still have my RS so again my perverted opinion

Really can’t go wrong with 458, GT4 or 991.1 GT3.
i have all 3 and probably enjoy driving the GT4 the most on the street and maybe even on track

personnally I am looking to add a 7speed dogleg manual V12 Vantage S since I love MT so much on the street compared to PDK-S or F1 tranny’s
