My first real car too, and a gateway machine to my Porsche addiction.
What is this?
The Samba?
Big turbo at Daikoku Futo.
Abandoned in the woods.
1956 Low Light in Shibuya.
My 1963.

The last picture looks like where I grew up. My parents had a blue Karmann Ghia.

I learned bodywork on mine and painted it Porsche yellow. It was as close to a Porsche as I could afford. I loved it and my wife married me in spite of it. Lol. I’ll have to do some real digging to find a picture from 50 years ago.

Post lock down, some touring and more film wasting is definitely planned!
Although the Ghia was the first car I saw that wowed me as kid, by the time I was able to get a car, a Type-1 was all I could afford.
The Ghia replaced a Type-1 though, then a 356 replaced the Ghia.
A 2.7S then replaced the 356.
And so, the cycle continues...
If you're into 3-gauge 912 (that red thing), here it is now...
See ya!

I love the slow thought process of shooting film; the metering and exposure setting to exploit four stops of latitude, the depth-of-field consideration, and of course the composition.

I think that was the Barossa Valley.
Same, same.

I really enjoy your posts and pictures. Japan looks very interesting and you get to see cars we will never see in person. I’ve got hundreds of pictures on slides from when we were shooting film. My dad had a dark room and we used to develop b&w many moons ago. I had a tweener 72 Capri 4cyl that I put the V6 in. Easiest conversion ever. Only had to change motor mounts and flip the wire loom to the other side of the engine. Very fun car. Finally got one of the first 77’ 924s in Portland Oregon. Our first new car ordered. Put 200K on that one. Going to have to go on an expedition to find some pictures.
Japan is a great place for automotive stuff in general.
I ride a motorcycle to work, and have shared the road with Stratos, XJ220, and Koenigsegg and stuff like that commuting.
This type of scene isn't unusual, and why I carry a camera in my glove box:
Especially neat though was this DBR1 scene:
Looking forward to seeing some of your period slides then!

Really random sample of stuff, Porsche content to follow...
Like thinking all long-hoods are 2.7RS, for some reason the US now thinks these are all Hako GT-Rs, and 'Hakosuka' means GT-R.
It doesn't and it isn't, unless it has one of these:
Twin cam, four valve, S20.
The source of that ripping silk sound at the start of every Petrolicious video.
This is also a Hakosuka ('Box-Skyline', for obvious reasons):
Another great Nissan, that held much promise (and Carlos the Shunned).
My neighbor and his Masser (that's him above somewhere too - with his cup of tea in his garage).
You may know him as:
A really nice guy, and a funny as heck - funny just standing there.
I considered buying a Cosmo Sports, but not being a rotary person, walked away.
They have in the meantime gone up 4x in price.
One of the coolest looking kyusha still.
Dart of some note I think, something about a huge engine?
E Type with rare-ish period Dunlop alloys.
Kinda like Rudge knock-offs on a 356?
Polaroid of a GT-5, twin-cammed coupe Corona with Yamaha heads like the now million dollar 2000GT.
Same inlay glass cloisonne badges, and not a bad style, with a decent racing history, if you do not mind a solid rear axle.

Welcome to a new week.
It is Golden Week here, five days off.
Bliss... No telework, but no driving either.
Such is life.
Some diversions though...
A friend's C4, we've been regularly touge hunting with.
It was a USDM machine, and imported a number of years ago.
The special spec, lipstick red full leather interior is something special.
I should take more more pics of it, as it lives down the valley, near the coast on Boso Hanto...
Not sure what they are called, but in Japan, we have a red zenki and a Silver kouki.
Pre- and post-facelift?
Red kouki C4 I used to see regularly on my commute through Omotesando.
The same driver has a red NSX too.
The S800 and the C4 sounded equally good - full stainless booming RUF system on the C4, and a straight, equal length stainless manifold at 10,000 rpm on the S800.
How did they get there?
Too many self-isolating chu-hai perhaps?

In one of your previous photos, I note one taken from old Roppongi office looking towards Fuji in the distance. Assuming the street below is Roppongi-dori, is that Shibuya in the foreground? Also, the vantage point seems very high, so were your offices in Roppongi Hills? I was hoping to see the the US Embassy housing compound, but that would require a view of Roppongi-dori facing the other way. Would you have any (less interesting photos) taken in the direction of Roppongi crossing and beyond towards the Tameike-Sanno? After living years in Tokyo, the street scenes are really fun to see again as it's been over ten years since visiting the city. A great photographic representation.of Tokyo and rural Japan.

Here I was thinking Stirling Moss in a vintage Aston in traffic was notable, but Sakai-san is it...
Yup!
My office used to be in Roppongi Hills, and I worked on moving everyone from there to one of the new buildings at Shibuya-eki.
I am sure I have some pics somewhere, looking North (over Marine One and the visiting Orange Bleach Injector once), and East (towards the compound too).
The ARK has seen a lot of activity since you were here then, with a number of new buildings going up - the ANA is still there as is though.
I will have a look and see what I can find...

Some random 356 friends at Meiji Jungu outer garden a few winters ago...
Nothing quite like the thrum of a 356.
Curiously, the only car that sounds closely similar to me is the Toyota Sports 800.
Horizontally opposed, 800c, two-cylinder - its got half the attributes I guess...

Of all the exotics, I think the 904 is on the top on my list of favorite Porsche I would drive.
So lovely to look at, and the last of Porsche's road cars before their first dedicated track machines...
This is a work colleagues father-in-law's, and we spent the day at Fuji Speedway enjoying the noises and a few other period exotics racing too.
One final B&W from the lockdown access archives, a one-owner 911T on native Mahle wheels - supposedly the lightest OEM fitted 911 wheel?
