Help!!
Looking at this red car right now l and it has 67xxx miles. Exterior and interior are superb! But during test drive noticed......
AC does not work.
The car has a rough/hunting idle.
Noticed a vibration in gearshift **** during driving in all gears. But no whining or weird noises and shifts great.
Other than that it ran and drove great.
Negotiated a price of 22000 before I saw the car. Can't find a shop nearby that knows anything about these for a PPI.

A/C, is it a 92? You will need to change to R134 if it is. Fix could be simple. Mine did not work but it was simple.

Great thank you !!!! Yes 1992, Lots of work has recently been done, all the big stuff, by a Porsche mechanic who worked at this dealer for 38 years. AC is fixable but was concerned with the vibration in gear handle. This thing could be made to look brand new with very little effort. Hate to pass on it.

IMO The price seems close to premium these days, but I tend to be a bargain hunter. No doubt others will think differently. I guess it depends how long you'd be willing to keep looking. Just because you agreed to a tentative price doesn't mean you can't point out things and ask for less. There may be more room on the price than you think. It rarely hurts to ask.
Or maybe it's perfect right where it is. Go with your gut, but try not to over-assume. No matter how good I'd guess it needs somethings. If so you might be pushing $25k territory or higher. At that point I'd definitely want to know if it has special options, etc.
Best of luck again! I know you've been waiting for the right one. I look forward to seeing what you end up with. I'm jealous!
Edit: It seems slightly odd they didn't fix the AC and rough idle if it's simple and has been so well maintained by an expert otherwise. I'd negotiate further and probably walk away at 22k, especially with rough idle and no PPI. But that's just my opinion. See what you can come up with. Good luck.

The vibration could be the balance shaft belt not configured. The belt is quite loose and can slip a cog or two or the lower balance shaft maybe out by 180 deg.

Good cars are becoming harder to find. I would not let a few minor issues deter you from getting a cream puff.
There is foam around the shifter that deteriorates over time. If it gets brittle and falls apart, you lose all its damping ability. Also, don't rule out engine mounts as a possibility.

Thank you guys for your opinion. We worked out a new deal and I will be waiting to see what's wrong with the AC, they think it may be something simple like some valve in the dash not working right. I'll update soon hopefully.

We have agreed on a contingent price based on the AC either being fixed or not depending on how serious it is. So hopefully tomorrow we will finalize the deal. I have always done most work on my Porsches so I can handle a few issues given that the rest of the car was so immaculate. If I do get this in my garage I'll be flooding you guys with questions so be patient with me.

Good call on going for it. You coming from the outside paid what is the "new" price for 968's. Some are still caught in 2008.
Congrats!!

Well looks like it's a done deal! I asked them to come down another $1100 dollars for the AC not working which they agreed to, then ad back to the new price whatever it costs to fix it. They fixed it and converted it to r134 and it was only 400 dollars. I am having it shipped to my house because I just wasn't up for a 22 hour drive. So hopefully in 8 days or so I'll have it.
