Over the weekend, I...

- installed my newly recovered A pillar and top window trim pieces
- painted the screw cap covers for the A pillars - used a combination of Painter's Touch Midnight Blue (satin) with a top coat of Painter's Touch Clear (matte) - came out great - especially since midnight blue caps for the A pillars are NLA
- finished running wires/cables in the front half of the car for the radio and speakers - this included mounting the Sirius antenna, the GPS antenna and the microphone - terminated the speaker wires in the plug - hooked everything up and tested - works!! Woohoo!

Next step is carpeting! Yuck.

Default Botched 968 valve cover gasket install

New gasket found to be leaking oil over my rebuilt top end. Very annoying. Removing the valve cover revealed that on the inlet side the gasket had split at the left end of the central upward prominence pictured. There is also a crack starting at the right end of same. Gasket looks a bit like it’s been overstretched length ways. It was fitted to the cover prior to replacement and positioned properly. I did a little jiggling to place the cover, perhaps too much it seems. Just wondering how I managed to do this, I don’t want to repeat the experience!

Default M490 speaker grill restoration

Speaker grills had a couple of worn spots on the metal and the fabric on the inside was dirty and deteriorated after almost 30 years. So, use SEM trim black on the grills, buy some new speaker grill fabric and cut & glue to the grills.

What the fabric looked like when removed

Use old worn out fabric as a template

Mask grill so that adhesive is only on the edges

Finished product!

Default The 968 goes to Wales on a beautiful day

So, finally the English border is slowly lifting with the Welsh Separatist Republic Of Political Showboating. Which meant a socially distanced family visit was finally possible. I’d really discounted the idea of a 100 mile test at typical uk motorway (freeway) speeds after only 200 mi local testing but this morning we said what the hell and headed west. Car didn’t put a foot wrong, nothing broke, temp and pressure on the money all the way for the round trip. Even the sun roof worked. Madam is on the learning curve from the Fiat 500 daily driver and enjoying the differences, if not the clutch.

Yep, bigger than the Fiat she says

Wales on the horizon

Crossing the recently lifted iron/Welsh curtain, old Severn Bridge, an engineering masterpiece.

Funny thing, I am heading back there this weekend to rub down and apply the second Primer coat, but my Mum sent me this photo yesterday with the text "He just can't help himself".. I guess I'll be Top Coating at the Weekend then..!
