Default New member. Soon to be new 968 owner! - Updated Pics

Hello everyone,
New member and first post although I have been lurking for quite awhile.

Barring any catastrophes, I will pick up my '94 968 coupe on 2/15.

Some info on the car:
Amazon Green Metallic (I think) with cashmere/black interior.
Tiptronic with 16" Cup 1's
94K with service records from Jack Daniel's Porsche/Audi in NJ.

The car spent most of it's life in NJ and came to North Carolina last summer. the previous owner was a PCA member, and the car has been well maintained (interior and exterior is excellent).

I'm hoping that Jeff968 can give me a breakdown on the VIN. Last three digits are 191. My initial research shows that the car is actually a '93.

I have some not very good pics from the dealer. I will post better pic when I get the car.

Sweet car, welcome-and kudos for becoming a member right off the bat; I just renewed the other day, best $18 you can spend/year.

Great to have you here, and congratulations on the new purchase! Always good to see another 968 in a loving home.

So are you a big DIY-er sort of guy, planning to do the manual transmission swap yourself? Or just sending it to a shop and writing a check?

Thanks for the welcome :-)

I have plans for a few updates, but I'm going to leave the Tip. I want a six-speed and I may try to pick up a second car in a year or two.

There are two problems with the car that I am aware of:
1) The sunroof does not budge either way when the switch is pressed
2) The interior readout for the digital temp gauge goes away a few minutes after start up

What spares should I keep in the car to keep from being stranded? (Relays, etc...)

thanks,
-kb

Welcome ,see we have the same taste.Mine is a 93 (low miles) six speed same color Amazone Pearl Green Metalic ( Paint code will be L39 ATU) even if it has all records may I suggest that you get an independant PPI from the dealer you buying from, better be safe than sorry.Your first upgrade should be a nice set of 17" Cup I & a good all around set of tires.Than (pinch yourself it's a little pricey an SC steering wheel but lol it's heaven in your hand). The famous Dave G air box mod, well nothing but your DIY time.Expensive suspension upgrades can come in later on (without going overboard & turning your car into a bones destroyer) specially if you don't track it. I do keep a DME relay in the car at all time.Sending you pics of what that color look like depending on the ligth reflextion on it.

Hi kbarber,
Congrats on your new purchase. I've got some interesting information for you:

Your car is....

#1,388 of 2,234 North American 968 coupes
#131 of 718 1994 coupes
1 of 117 N7 Amazon green coupes
1 of 75 N7 Amazon green coupes paired with Black/cashmere interior
1 of 25 N7 Amazon green coupes with a tiptronic

Now, a couple of really cool things about your car.
As for options it has the metallic paint and the partial leather interior but also has XD4 painted crest center caps and a 595 rear spoiler painted in body color. Its most unusual feature is it very rare option, X25 which is a dark rootwood tiptronic shifter ****, 1 of only 4 cars produced with this option. It is also a 718 reVIN car which means it was born a 1993 (could you get me the production date on the driver's door jam sticker?). Here is one last thing i think you will like. Of the 117, it was the LAST N7 amazon green coupe produced!!! Now, there are a couple of "color to sample metallic" cars after it and they could have been painted Amazon green but your car was the last regular production NA 968 coupe produced in Amazon green.

if you keep up with maintenance, there's virtually nothing to worry about.

the only "stuff" i keep around are:

1. detailing kit.
2. spare Mahle oil filter.
3. a quart of Mobil 1 15w-50
4. fuel filter.
5. inflatable donut.

optional: maybe a dist. cap and rotor if i were to keep using it over an extended period of time to save a few bucks. in my 944 i did just that. drove with the same rotor(really dumb) and cap forever. (it finally broke and shattered the cap at 115 k mi), but one, can theoretically break sooner.... i keep no jack or air pump in the car but i have my tire wrench secured with a lock tie under the passenger seat which i customized slightly.

your color is one of my all-time favorites. i had a chance to see an Amazon Green 968 at the 24 Hours of Daytona event last week.

the damn thing kept changing colors. stunning.

i think the cars are great. there's plenty of things that i love about the "968." for me, i decided there were a few things that i wanted to improve... i do spend a lot of time driving it and traveling. i still haven't changed the engine and updated the transmission. so i have a long way to go.

Hello,
finally got to take some better pictures. These will have to do for now until I can find a better backdrop. Car cleaned up pretty good.
