Thanks so much for the reply. If it's not too much trouble, could you post a close-up pic of the shifter ****? It really looks great in the pics you have posted.

My hat to you, very nice job in & out look fantastic ,but lol warning you the hardest part has yet to come -engine bay-fender wells & undercariage, and looking at what you did up to now I'm sure your the type of guy who will tackle the job in the near future. What you'll need is patience -no respect for your body parts -hand -fingers knees ect ect & a lack of foul language Knowledge.

You got that right, Ernie! I pulled the driver's front wheel off yesterday and there is about 15 years worth of caked on gunk under there. The PO must have been into tractor pulls or something. I'll probably need to use steel wool to get it off. the engine compartment is pretty clean, but I need to refinish the valve cover, manifold and vanity cover.

Don't use steel wool, here what you need (pad & zim) for inner fender cleaning but fist try to get the cake & gunk off with a brittle brush (not a steel one) , for suspension parts Varsol is great -brake & associated parts (break cleaner) ,after it's clean use a viny & rubber cleaner/conditioner on all plastic or rubber parts. You will also need tar remover.Don't forget to cover your rotors -caliper while cleaning. After cleaning rubber parts & trim in your engine compartment ,treat them with the same R/V C/C. For years I've use Meguiar's mirror glaze (no 40) does the job just fine. Will try to walk you through it with before & after pics.Last three pics are after the engine bay was done & lol ready to go.

It's a lot of work removing the (spark plug wires shroud-valve cover & manifold ) ,I can't imagine the valve cover & manifold being in that bad of a shape with a car so well taken care off & you migth be able to clean them still install unless you want to change color.Mine were in perfect shape & only need a good cleaning ,as you can see in the pics, only the spark-plugs wires shroud was remove & painted a darker shade (with DUPLI-COLOR anodized METALCAST) to my knowledge one of the best paint (beside getting the parts power-coat) to paint alluminum with. It's a little tricky to apply but if done rigth does a very good job is heat resistant a very durable. If you still going to remove them & refinish, then go with powder coat ,be very carefull ,spray (bolts-nuts) loosener on every bolts & nuts to be removed, most of them been there for 18 years.Saying this cause I got in trouble with a small bolt on the S-P-S shroud took me half a day to get out , the head was strip on the darn thing by some (fork -lift ) mechanic probably when changing the spark plugs.Send us pics of your motor if you can.Take care.

Thanks, Ernie. That looks really good!

Edit: The engine compartment is pretty clean, so it's not urgent for me to get in there. Just something I'd like to take care of some day.

Look pretty good to me & like mention nothing urgent, for now what you can do is clean all rubber parts (hoses-vanity cover ect and treat them with R/V C/C ) also remove your spark plugs shroud underneath you will find acculumation of gunk - remove spark plugs wires clean & treat them. Be very carefull if you do remove the spark plugs since they are set deep in there, when reinstalling don't use a socket start them up with a rubber hose(that fit on top of your plugs) at least 3 to 4 treads, finish with socket but don't over torque them. The spark plugs holes migth be full of gunk clean carefully with varsole but make sure nothing end up on top of your pistons. Also a usefull trick is to smear some vaseline on the plugs treads this way making it easier for removal next time around,if spark plugs needed change stay away from costly platinum one, the Bosche OE W7DC copper tips is what any 968 like the best.Have fun!!!!

Vaseline really isn't made for this, anti-seize is the proper lubricant here.
