transmission info and engine pics......

repost from Turbo forum for future reference;

there are lots of gear options for the 968 transmission. parts source; Scott Dewitt/Advanced Automotion, Corpus Christi, TX
Roger Brown @ California Motorsports, Lake Havasu, AZ

stock 968 ratios;

1st; 3.182 :1
2nd; 2.000 :1
3rd; 1.435 :1
4th; 1.111 :1
5th; 0.912 :1
6th. 0.778 :1
final ratio 3.778 w/ open diff.

short ratios; [available @California Motorsports]

1st; 3.182 :1
2nd; 2.000 :1
3rd; 1.526: 1
4th; 1.227 :1
5th; 1.042 :1
6th. 0.893 :1

taller gears from the euro 2wd A4 diesel transmission work for high hp setups (my 968 trans).

1st; 3.182 :1
2nd; 2.000 :1
3rd; 1.230 :1
4th; 0.930: 1
5th; 0.729 :1
6th. 0.600 :1
final ratio 3.778 w/LSD.

oem 968 Turbo S 6 speed [complete boxes almost impossible to find]:

1st; 3.182 :1
2nd; 2.000 :1
3rd; 1.435 :1
4th; 1.111 :1
5th; 0.882 :1 [very limited availability]
6th; 0.711 :1 [very limited availability]
final ratio; 3.455 w/ limited slip diff. [very limited availability]

the gears from the euro 2wd A4 diesels fit the 968 box

as long as the gear #s match.

4th with 4th, 5th with 5th, etc...

list of available gearsets 3~6 from the Euro A4 Diesels

1.32 1.07 0.86 0.73
1.23 0.93 0.73 0.60
.......0.87 0.67 0.56

incidentally, Roger @California Motorsports had Albins in Australia do a design test to configure a R&P (in March of 2011)
and it turns out the closest they would be able to get to 3.00 would be a 3.30 and still have it fit and run properly.
that's a lot of gear but not quite enough for what i needed.

and below; update w/ short stroke LS7, headers, bellhousing, aluminum flywheel, clutch, tt, transmission, serpentine and hydroboost installed....

You were just anxious about this build, it looks great. What's the weight difference in the 3.0 and a SMC?
