Default M030 Price Premium

Hey guys. Appreciate the feedback I've gotten on my quest for a 968. I got a bead on a few and am curious what's been the premium for a car with the M030 suspension versus one without? Hagerty's only gives a bump up for a few colors (the ones I'm looking at are not those colors). Trying to figure out the right (fair) pricing of the car. Thanks!

What colors?

Regarding the M030 package, if factory original they are are limited to 99 (http://968register.org/optionalequipment/m030/) which of course makes the car a little more desirable (value is debatable).

928GTS big black brakes are a sizable upgrade over M030 brakes.
The rotors will be easier to source, as you can use 928GTS, 993TT, custom fabbed, etc,
Koni front adjustable struts + rear adjustable's are perfect.
You may be able to locate low mile front Koni's.
Then, source an M030.1 or M030.2 sway-bar. They're around....
or go aftermarket like Weltmeister or Tarret.
The car will be as good, well, actually better than M030
without worrying if the original car came with or without the M030 package.

many factors are involved here. Is this for a low miles museum collector car? if so a premium should apply. does the purchaser value M30 over stock? if so premium should apply. I doubt the M30 will determine if a buyer or seller want to transact or not. Worry more about overall condition, maintenance, colour and options that are important to you. Be sure to buy from an enthusiast who babied it if you can

As others have said, for a low milage collector car, very important.
For a driver car, you can add all the M030 components and have a great driver. Very little premium.
More important are the service records, IMHO.

PS I think OEM LSD and 17 inch wheels are more important. LSD premium would be significant in my book.

Thanks for the feedback. The colors hagerty's gives a bump to are Speed Yellow, Rivera Blue, Maritime Blue, Rubystone Red, and Amaranth Violet. Both look to be quality drivers and they have similar mileage (~100k) and from pictures (I know I know) both look to be in solid condition and have good documentation. The car with the M030 is a 1 of 1 as it's Horizon Blue. It also has the LSD and is pretty much original. The one without is Polar Silver and is having some work done to "bring it back," not that it was in bad condition but I think most understand.

Check the dashboard for cracks. That would be, and was, a big determinant for me.
At 100,000 miles check for things that have been replaced. Yes water pump and TB. But I mean the little things. Should ahve all new rubber in the engine bay. New rubber underneath is bushings, etc.
Check the weather stripping around all doors, rear hatch in particular. Do ALL the electrics work, even the speed dial for the windshield wipers? Check the hinges in the glovebox.
Have a PPI done. Well worth the $250-600 if you are serious about the car. Coupe or cab? Make sure the sun roof work properly. ETC, ETC...

The HB's dash is solid. The PS's is being replaced with NOS. I'm leaning towards the HB because it seemingly has been better taken care of but there's a decent price difference, hence why I started the thread. I've been told the seals are good and all electrics work but I'm searching for a shop to do the PPI since I won't be able to see the car in person due to travel restrictions with work.

Exclusive numbers are always desirable...1 of 1 HB M030 > PS IMHO.

If there is only one Horizon Blue M030 cars out there then it appeared on BAT many years ago before BAT changed their name to BAT in fact the story and pics are still on the site. https://bringatrailer.com/2013/12/13...3-porsche-968/

Owned now locally by a guy in Virginia as far as I know and he has been taking very nice care and bringing back to stock condition from the tracked condition it was in. Friend of mine had looked at the car and indicated at the time holes were still present from roll bar installation and seat harness points etc... Cant confirm that but check out on a lift.

I cant remember what I had for lunch yesterday but somehow some of these cars are stuck in there ....

Many shops in the DC Area could do the PPI but I would recommend two that I know that have 968 experience

RPM in Lorton, VA Stan Fox (968 owner and shop owner)
ASG in Fairfax, VA Jeff shop owner

I usually find the M030 package adds another 50% of value to the same coupe (color/mileage/other options) without it.
A couple of things to keep in mind:

True, it is rare, but make sure you want an M030. The driving experience is different and that is both a good and a bad thing. You may not like it if you were looking for a cruiser.
Make sure all the unique M030 parts are still with the car. Sometimes they are robbed.
Make sure the car wasn't hard raced. That was the intention of the package.
Watch those other options. M220 LSD was NOT standard. Sport seats are often found. Check the registry website for many details.
Lots of 1 on 1s. Which is pretty cool.

Jeff

I've know the 1 of 1 HB M030 car since 2013. It has been in VA, PS820063. (Third 1993 968 coupe). Metallic paint, partial leather in Classic grey, M030, 220 LSD, 403 17" cup1s (missing in the BaT article and a big dollar item), 490 hi-fi sound with 10 speakers and amps, 691 CD2 AM/FM CD player. Horizon blue coupes are rare even without M030, being 1 of 12.

People in the know have spoken. Expect to pay a 50% premium.
