Cool ENGINE RUNS............

Tonight I filled up my gearbox with fresh oil, turned the engine a few times without DME relay for bring oil everywhere. After that, I installed the DME ralais, and the engine was running pretty fast, and runs smooth.

No oil leaks so far. I ran for 1 hour tonight, good oil pressure.

Only............now I hear the valves tinking more then I am used to it.
I double checked the clearance [0,10mm] but I hear the sound of a little too much clearance. Investigate this tomorrow........

Prblems........ I am sure some of you will laugh right now, the reason is.....I did a wrong valve adjustment, I adjusted between the ground circle and the rocker, but the good way is between the valve and the rocker bolt, the ones I replaced........

Sorry for the wrong info, I feel ashamed right now

I will start over again tonight, and got a new gasket set an the special adjustment tool with the replaceble feeler [0,10]

No further pictures for the next couple of days, sorry.

I will follow up a.s.a.p.

Nice day

Ashamed is too strong a word!! Everyone makes mistakes Arjan - don't get too tough on yourself. Look on the bright side - you'll be really good at valve adjusting now!!

Arjan,
Is this a picture of the 'drain' plug or the 'fill' plug for the gear box? And, um, where exactly is the plug?? I can't figure it out from the picture...

Thanks for you help! I'm doing several of the things you have done and this thread has been invaluable!

Regards,
Jeff

It's the brake/clutch fluid drain plug to refresh the fluid [DOT 4 brake fluid). it's the screw on top of the picture. A closer pic was'nt possible because of the space. This drain plug you can open with a 7mm tool when you use a brake bleeder, and the old fluid comes out there thru the a hose which you should connect to the drain plug. Collect the old fluid [which will pushed out by the new fluid] in a empty container.

2ND TIME VALVE ADJUSTMENT

Last night I started all over again for tem 2nd time valve adjustment....... At the time I cam at the 1st valve to check [all the adjustment I will do tonight] I noticed that the clearance between the cam and rocker was 0,10 mm, but.... on the spot where the adjustment should happen, between the rocker screw and valve, it was far more.......... That's why the ticking was noticable.

Good that I will all the valves again. Let this be a lesson for the next time.............

Till soon.

All set now! Engine ran again last night at 1 a.m.!
She runs smooth and without ticking!
0,10 mm clearance was a almost 0,30 clearance on the valve/rocker screw

Npow we can continue with the service work. I have to make a little rush right now, My Boss starts to ask questions, he wants his rental car back wich I have for almost 4 weeks now..........

Again, SORRY for the inacurate info about valve adjustments, I did'nt knew beter, I worked a lot on 993's in the past but a 964 valve adjustment was new for me too.

I will continue asap.

Exclamation Engine oil

So, now a moment for engine oil.

All of us in all the countries of the world will use different oils, because of the climate's.
We use a 0W40 oil, the 0 is for the viscosety in cold condition of the engine, so the oil is fast where it should be in cold weather.
The 40 is the viscosety in warm condition, so a wide range oil.

Some of you may use a 5W40 or a 10W40, or may be 15W50 or 10W60.
No problem, just use what's best for your climate. Main thing is to use a fully synthetic motor oil with the good spec.

Nice weekend!

Cool Last day of service

Today, was my last day for the service on the car.

I started to place the wheels, the 17 Inch CUP for test driving. After that I will place the winter wheels, the 16 Inch.

After installing the wheels i checked the drive belts for the fan and altenator. They where ok. My ignition distrubutor I don't check, he is almost new, and so are the caps and rotors from the ignition.
I lubricated the door hold ups and the rest of the door's and hoods that need some grease

Wink Brakes after test drive in Germany.

After a warm up time, I took a test drive in Germany. First I drove 30 Miles on highway to check the gearbox, warm up the brakes. The brake pads are new as you now, so the will break the first miles a little soft, this takes some time. After a hot engine and gearbox, I took a 1/2 hour drive on the Autobahn, with a few minutes top speed and a cool down ride home.

No leaks, breaks are ok, engine does'nt tick, runs very smooth and the new installed 02 sensor works fine. I am satisfied.

Exclamation Wheel change

After test drive, I changed the set of wheels.

First check always your wheels for dirt on the inside surface which comes on the brake disk. If dirt is on the wheel/disk, you will have a unstabile steeringwheel, it starts to shake...... Please take some time for that.
