No torque settings for the locking nut & screw on the end of each tappet - not that I could fing anyway. Just make sure you buy the spare blades for the gauge (the blades are thin and I tore mine). ALso bear in mind that the valve clearance may not need adjusting at all. Check them - if the gauge gets in there and jsut drags nicely - move on. DOn't adjust for the sake of adjusting.

This is a great thread! I recently replaced spark plugs on my 993 which still retains the dreaded #6. Really not that difficult from below, with some tin removed. One tool that is a must, is a telescoping magnet stick. A real life saver!!

Arjan, I appreciate your cleaning of all items, especially sealing surfaces.

John,

You're right, I did the left side of the engine yesterday an from 6 valve there was 1 that was still fine in clearance. The others had to be adjusted. Last time the adjustment was'nt needed. They checked all valves and all where fine then. Not this time. I think I had a few track days that cause this necessairy adjustment.

I don't have the torque data on that, but I have a list for Metric bolts and nuts with their torque data. Most of the time I tight them on experienced feeling that I collected thru the years. For do it selfers is RECCOMENDED TO USE A SMALL TORQUE WRENCH!!

Yes John, I adjust the upper valves from below, it's easier to do is my experience. Same result, easier job to do!

Exclamation PROBLEMS WITH VALVE TRAIN!!!

YES......THERE COMES A TIME THAT ALL WILL GO WRONG............

I started on the right side of the engine for adjusment today, but.........
the adjust bolts/nuts are STRETCHED !!

So, this afternoon John F warned about the torque of these nuts and bolts, but yesterday everything went fine, but tonight we can go back in time and replace the bolts and nuts.

How do we do that???

Easier then it looks in the first place, just remove all the rocker arms and replace the bolts and nuts.

Rotate the camshaft so far it does'nt push te rocker up, remove the imbus bolt and nut , clean 1 side of the rocker axle before pushing it back thru the tunnel and .......yes, the rocker comes out easy!

I removed all the rockers for security reasons and checked all the bolts and nuts.

7 OUT OF 12 WHERE STRETCHED!!!! NOT USING THE RIGHT TORQUE CAUSES THIS!!!!!!!

I will replace all 12 pieces, so I will have that "safe" feeling again.

The bolts are stretched under the nut, so you will not see that, only feel it when you turn the rotate the nut during adjusting the valves.
It turns very heavy, and will not feel smooth.

I can not photograph all the tools which are needed. Just take care that you will have a well filled Metric toolbox, Torque wrench, 0,10 mm blades, and a lot of brake cleaner.

Next time more.....................
