Teardown begins. Suspension madness...

FWIW my kw rs set came with a reducer insert for the bottom bolt. Is that not the case for everyone? You absolutely don’t want 2mm of play on that bolt. Even with the reducer, I have to really crank the torque on the strut bolts to keep them from slipping.

That's good to know nick. Cuz the person i spoke to said that is in fact the way they are designed. Mine didn't show up with the reducer. I'll call them back and discuss that. I bought a set of reducers, but they add approx 3mm to the total width and that's going to make getting a wrench on the backside a pita.
So clearly at some point they knew this was an issue.
Spyrex- you have the bbi rs uprights, so yours likely match whatever the rs had, which i assume is the same as 993 (m12 top and m14 bottom) or m14 top and bottom, no?
I think i may actually switch eventually to standard 993 uprights. So if anyone has a set of regular 993 uprights they don't want, shoot me a pm...and then when i find a set of brakes, I'll do "suspension madness, take 2"

Ugh. I’m an idiot. You’re right. I did have this discussion when i was first doing this before getting 993 uprights and was told the shocks came with an insert.

When you call KW back, could you please ask if it is V3 specific or if V1s are also affected by this? Inquiring mind wants to know since I just went with V1s.

Hope this link works...this is a video of the play in the bottom bolt of a kw v1...and therefore the same as on my kw v3...14mm hole in the kw and 12mm bolt and hole in our upright...
This is the car...
And this is the step down washer installed
And these are the washers. You need four total. One on each side of the bottom bolt of the front struts...
We installed the spacers. Aligned the car and solved the issue. Car feels great. Can't wait to do my own car next....

Those are the ones that i bought.
Disclaimer- i have no idea the grade of stainless they used. I have no idea how hard the metal is. I have no idea if the metal will compress and cause the torque to loosen. So i suggested to my friend yesterday to recheck the torque after a little bit of driving and to keep an eye on it. I bought these because they were the first and only i saw the day i did the search.
I'd prefer if they were a little harder, and serrated to be a locking washer. We don't need these backing out.
Anyway. Keep all that in mind, and if anyone finds a better one....come back and post them here.

Rob - Thanks for the texts yesterday, much appreciated. So, I just spoke with KW and mentioned the issue and not receiving the step down washers with my V1s. They called me back and confirmed the washers are included with the RS set only, which makes no sense at all since all their coilover versions have the 14mm hole in the strut. Good news is that they are sending me a set, bad news is that it is 3 weeks out since it will come from Germany. Maybe I'll just order some from your link.

Ok so everyone here who has a set of KW should call them immediately and have them comp each of you a set.
Maybe they will get the point and future kw buyers won't have to deal with the "randomdynamic camber" feature they built into their struts...lol

More than likely your camber will change when you install the step down washers. Unless for some reason the holes are lined up dead center. Now, by how much and whether it warrants an alignment, who knows. Give it a shot and then see how the car feels. If it tracks straight and feels good then obviously nothing changed in a terribly bad way.

Btw. I spoke w kw just now and i need a "proof of purchase" to have them warrantee me the spacers. So you'll need an order number when/if you call them.
What's nice is that this is a better response than i got when i last called. So we are moving in the right direction. I'll just need to dig out my paperwork.

I figured out today how the wevo mount failed.
I don't have the plastic oem plugs in the service holes of the rear engine tin. The holes are the ones directly under the mounts- that you pass through to unbolt the bottom of the mount...
I do, however have a cat and the lower cat heat shield. So when the car sits, whether in traffic or like today, doing an oil change and running the car for an extended time at idle...the amount of heat that gets drawn through that hole is enormous.
I put my hand on the right hand side- not so bad, but hot, and then on the left, it's hot enough to melt the skin off your fingers.
So that solves that problem. Now i need to find a better way to shield that hole. The plastic caps suck and in my case, they like to pop out of the holes, since my tins are ancient. For the moment, i stuffed a wad of aluminum foil in the hole...but a more reasonable fix is in my future.
Anyway- long story short. If those holes aren't plugged...i guess it's time to plug them.

Hey goughary, one of the first things I noticed when I got my car is that I don't have a plug on the left side. However from memory when I looked on the pet it only shows one on the right side. I could be wrong. I was presuming it's for water to drain from.
