Next up today...

Rennline tie down hooks. Why? Because there are nifty little hooks built into the front of the car for the AAA guy to tie your car down, but in the back, he's going to use your wheel, or your trailing arm, or your strut. Or God forbid he uses your swaybar...worse has happened.

So on go the rennline hooks. But they need to be red. So they can be noticed by the person looking for them. Rennline make these is steel, and paints them red, but why put another object on the car that will rust? So we got stainless and I'm now priming and painting them. And they can get repainted later when they look like crap.

And then on to the tie rods.

Easy enough. Built them up the same length as what came off the car.

I had to resuse the left hand inner lock nuts, cuz the inner tie rods came without them. Remind me next time to buy these as a full set.

Then. Since I need to change out the transaxle mount...I went under to inspect. Lots of rust. I'm worried I'm going to pull the studs at the same time off the side of the trans.

Anyway, in preparation, I bought new hardware from mcmcmaster Carr. M10x100 bolt with oversize washers and a locknut per oem. And then the three flange nuts on the transaxle are blue thread locker but not locking nuts.

And the new mount is going on with a function first mount as well. Should be good.

Except without the dumb lookin, completely out of place blingy 22's and rubber band tires that can't get scratched....

this car is going to be driven, broken, fixed, and driven again....

that said - we are going to start pulling back the stop creep soon. I have to get another into this bay in a few weeks - so front bumper seals, front splitters, rennline engine carrier, etc are all things that can be done after, in the other bay, one at a time...so we will do all the stuff that needs to be done while the sub frames are out and rear stats are out - and thats where I need to draw the line on this job - i was just sitting here mapping out the remainder of the work - lots to do!

Supposedly the flappers help with the extra cooling function in conjunction with the rear blower. There is a lot of latent heat in the heat exchangers and when the temp reaches a certain level in the blower duct the blower may switch to a high speed to dissipate that via the flapper into the rear wheelwells. Although all this time I thought they were somehow electrically operated, they just seem flip floppy to me. I took mine out, which were spotless and free moving inside, to tape them off since no more heat.

However I really do think that this flapper could the ringing sound culprit we have been looking for. Atleast in my case, because they just literally bounce around.

I've just ordered one of those as I feel that the new mounts let too much movement through. Hope it works.

BTW What torque are you using on the mount bolts?

No idea yet on the bolts for the mounts. Haven't looked...

I'm sure it's written in the shop manual somewhere...ill post it when I get there. Gotta work on the rust first. Bought some naval jelly today to coat the nuts and the studs. I'll remove all that rust before attempting to loosen them. Don't want the studs coming out...

And then spent some time dry fitting all the hardware in the front. They told us when we went all the hardware out to the plater "we are an industrial facility, we can't guarantee you will get everything back"

So I found out, in the front, I am missing three m6 washers and an m8x25 bolt for one of the swaybar brackets. Not too bad given the cost and how well everything turned out.

And in other news, the bama car came back from having the left hand exhaust tip installed and the faux oem (but now looks perfect) left hand outlet bumper section painted...

Btw...for anyone lurking around here and the great US cars for sale thread...that Bama car is what a 50-60k+ 964 looks like...every part that moves and wears, has been upgraded, refreshed, replaced or renewed. There are plenty of us that have much more money in our cars, and they aren't as good. Way to go John...
