While I certainly didn't buy at the bottom, I'm glad I became interested in buying my first Porsche when I did, almost 5 years ago. Prices where on the way up but sometimes reasonable, when I found my 964 back then. Paid $35k then and have easily have put another $25k in maintenance/upgrades since. I might break even if I sold it today, maybe. But that's not what is important here, to me.

This car has been listed on the RL classifieds for a few weeks for more than that.

My car is Midnight Blue w black interior (converted from Oyster) and 117k mi. I am not particularly interested in selling it but I am curious what I should be insuring it for.

$105k with cheesy mods and ugly wheels? good luck.

pcarfan944. I am sure the new owner of the car you are criticizing as having cheezy mods and ugly wheels will appreciate your negative comments. The car did sell for "all the money ". Seems everyone is an expert these days when it comes to car values. The market decides the value of any given car and that is the reality. What any one thinks as to a cars value is irrelevant and only an opinion. Reminds me of the old saying about opinions being like a$$holes !

RS door cards with speed line look a like wheels with h&r springs is cheesy? Stick with the 944.
For the new owner, congrats. Unique color combo. A few “uncheesy” mods and the car will be great. Congrats on the new toy

Maybe true although sell these cars once for a high price doesn't mean you will find another buyer for the same inflated price. Personalizing a car can have its drawbacks . There is a lot of money being thrown around for cars that have a lot of flash and no real substance. So long as the market stays on this trajectory it is one thing the second it plateaus, as it will have to do, many of these cars will be hard to sell for a profit or the same money for those who think they are buying an investment. These are great cars but far too many are investing in them with minimal understanding about them and not purchasing them because they are enthusiasts and this will impact the market one day.

One of the great things about Porsche's is that some folks like keep their cars as stock and pure to the original design as possible. I fall into this category and in doing so get to experience closely what the engineers created back in 1993. If i want to go fast I will go and race my Formula Ford.
Other enthusiasts relish the duality of driving their cherished Porsche on the road, carving canyons, and hitting the track. To enhance "that experience" they pursue mods to improve the performance, handling, etc. These mods are consistent with the dual goals of their car.
There is a long history of racing Porsche's and the factory and privateers came up with special versions or race bread improvements. Some owners want the character of an RS but do not have the resources to buy the real deal and the swapping in of a few RS bits gets the car close enough to make it special for them.
Live and let live, celebrate differences, and keep the discourse positive. Don't get me started on the "experts" that chime in on BAT or Pcar with their encyclopedic knowledge and literally taking the wind out the auction of a perfectly good car.

I did not read the comments as I would never buy a car at auction especially one wrapped in vinyl since there is no way of knowing what is underneath and I have seen some real messes. Porsche IMO did stray a bit with the 964 from the prior approach and in stock form these cars lost some of the visceral feeling the earlier cars offered. I have owned many more than in my signature and I have rarely owned any Porsche that didn't need some tweaking or personalization to suit my likes. Live and let live but in all honesty a stock 964 is lacking so much that some minor tweaks will bring out.
If some comments in anyone of these auction sites and it kills a deal other than pointing out obvious misrepresentation then maybe that is saying something about the knowledge of those bidding and how easily influenced they are. If you are going to bid on these cars at auction you better know what you are looking at and who cares what other say or feel. Otherwise you get what you get.
FYI here is a case of buying at auction and what was actually covered up by a vinyl rap.
Car looked like a 10 wrapped.
