I just checked out their website ... more and more of these 964's are being backdated!

I like the backdate but I also really like the original look of the 964 with slight tweaks ...

It is only a sample of about 7 or 8 cars but all were cars with some needs and had many layers of paint usually with many shades. Reminds me of most of the cars I looked at during the 80's grey market. Every mom and pop gas station also did collision repair and paintwork. When the grey market first started the cars were exceptional condition but a few years in and every car was 'original paint' and 'needed nothing'. In some cases I looked at some cars my first trip out and passed on them due to their condition. On my return trip the same car was miraculously refinished and had half the miles but still 'original paint' Usually the overspray was so apparent, I loved the look on the sellers face when I asked about the painted muffler and told them I looked at the car months before.

Not saying all the imports are this way. It just is harder to see the entire picture vs a US spec car.

Aubreu has that Tahoe Blue car we all discussed in detail with the poor back end repair the cobalt blue import is a full redo with new interior and paint and many shades. I also don't see any color shift which I would expect. Although the factory magnesium wheels are a nice touch and a cobalt slick top is always interesting. The RSA is a track rat that was converted back to street and is quite apparent. I would be leary of all of those cars.

The history of this car has been known for a long time and hasn't been selling. I am surprised their is no mention of the cars history in the for sale ad. Steve had been trying to sell the car for years.

No doubt I devalued my car by cutting the roof off and replacing it with a slick top but I don't plan to sell and I have miles of documentation which IMO changes things. These cars are all gussied up without any records or history regarding the paintwork or interior refresh and that always throws up red flags in my book.
I appreciate the insights greatly! As patient as I am with my search, I still get excited too easy by these beautiful 964s. I knew something has to be up with the slicktop RSA but wanted to believe otherwise.

I need to stick to my game plan of buying from Nathan, Holt, RPM, or Merit Partners based on the condition I am looking for. Of course, if a well known member of this community decides to sell theirs, that would work well too.

I would include Brett Sloan from Sloan motorcars as well. He has an interesting hotrod 964 for sale. His father always had interesting cars but seems like Brett is taking the business to another level. Just remember no matter how rare and hard to find a nice example there is always another and the right car will call out to you.

That is good to know!

The 964 hotrod looks great. I am picky about color though.

Color is important. When I started my search for my 94 turbo back in 2000, my wife always hated that I spent so much time polishing my black 3.0RS tribute. (wish I kept that car) The lacquer paint was gorgeous but needed constant attention. So I agreed she can help with color choice. It started with no black ( ) which IMO Porsche's look great in black. But then turned to no red, white, black or silver. That added 8 months to my search and in the end I am grateful. Stumbling on my cobalt turbo was one of the best things I could have hoped for. With both my turbo and 928 after a year of searching and when I thought all hope was lost and ready to give up the right cars landed in my lap and I was ready to pull the trigger. Finding the right car is an adventure and IMO can be half the fun sometimes. Now my son wants to trade in his Audi for a cayman S so it looks like I will be helping with that.

If you are looking to hot rod a 964 I might suggest look for a car with needs and just plan to build it like you want. I know it is hard to find any 964 coupe at reasonable pricing these days. If I could find one to restore and sell I would but even the cars with needs are pricey and owners won't let go of unless they get their price. There was a perfect C4 I looked at a while ago but the owner wants $10k more than it is worth. Although this would have been a bone stock restoration. Too bad the all original paint needs so much work otherwise I would have grabbed it at the miles it could be a very nice car for someone looking for stock.

FYI, there's a 90 C4 Cab black/black with 144k miles on 6peed it's from Cali and the OP is asking $31k, looks like he also got a 993 turbo next to it

^^^ Huge money especially with aftermarket cup wheels without center caps, no mention of early or late engine and or LSD being rebuilt. It also needs new tail lights By now if original the LSD will need rebuilding. There is also something odd going on when looking at the drivers side door. The upper gap of the window seems out of line which needs investigating. No mention of paintwork which looks quite clean for the miles.
